Posted - 02/11/2011 : 13:39:20 Hi
I am in the process of setting up my Corn snakes new, upgraded Viv. A little info first and then I'll ask away.
The viv is a 4 foot VivExotic (wooden). The heat mat is a Microclimate vivarium heat mat that will be used with a Habistat Mat Stat. I intend to floor mount the mat in the viv and then cover it with Lino.
In the instructions for the heat mat it says the following "Do not place anything such as a hide or water dish on the substrate directly above the heatmat." I have found this very confusing. Although I do understand the water bowl issue. Everything that I have read suggests putting the mat on the floor, which to me makes sense, given how they work. What is the point of a heat mat if you can't put a hide on it?
Basically I just want peoples advice/ opinions on what this means and if the way I plan to use it is o.k. |

One more query, I have no idea what to 'pin down with hides' means, so a brief explanation or even a picture would be great, thanks. |

Posted - 02/11/2011 : 13:53:43 i use microclimate mats amongst other brands inside the viv is fine, i wouldn't personally bother with the lino and i would pin it down with a hide.............most of the instructions you get with heatmats tell you how to set up for geckos not snakes |
