Posted - 08/08/2011 : 20:12:29 I have been bitten by the building bug and must now expand my snake empire. I know .... there is no known cure.
Plenty wood and adaptable cabinets, almost unlimited glass salvage, nobody to moan about the mess and disruption.
Where I am getting stuck is finding a supplier of door glass channels. There are plenty of manufacturers, trade wholesale supplies but I can't find a local DIY retail outlet. Anyone know of one in the Glasgow/ Paisley area where I could collect or get mailed out without a fortune on courier charges.
I only need simple "W" sections for 4mm glass. Approx 700 x 400 mm. (Obviously deeper channel for top.)
It might end up easier just buying this 36" flatpack http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/vivexotic-lx36-ellmau-beech.html from Surrey Pets.
Cheers, Alan. |

Posted - 08/08/2011 : 21:41:05 Excellent GP, I'll chase up Volly and get something sorted out.
I'll probably get enough bits for any future developments.
Edit: The link on that post goes to a VistaPrint advert. I'll try e-mail.
Update: Temporarily out of business due to health reasons. (Found on RFUK) |

Posted - 08/08/2011 : 21:07:35 Seems daft that a useful item as this is so much of a pain to locate. Maybe I should go to the Dragons Den and see if I can get some backing from Mr Bannatyne and go into business. |

Posted - 08/08/2011 : 20:57:10 i've previously got it from B&Q but the one near me stopped doing it ages ago
Pollywog seem very reasonably priced, not looked into the delivery though, loobylou used to charge £1 per foot length + postage (price of 1ft = 1ft of deeper top runner AND 1ft or shallower bottom runner) and she did or does glass door handles and vents too |

Posted - 08/08/2011 : 20:52:57 Thanks folks, modem took the huff while answering.
Searches didn't turn up anything local but I'll give loobylou or Pollywog a shout and see what's what.
Someone in the toolstore suggested B&Q but the online store only listed single channel. Maybe give them a phone and see if they have any other flavours.
Thanks again. |
