Posted - 22/05/2010 : 15:53:39 Yeah, she move in about a month ago now. Absolutely right, it is a split bamboo. I was in Homebase and saw it (it's one of those garden candle things; if you see them you'll know them!) and thought i could use it! the original plan was to use pvc pipe and some filler/grout to create fake branches, but gave up on that idea when I saw the bamboo. It was just a case of sanding down all the rough edges. Also picked up the mug holder while I was there too (you can see it in the pic; its just cunningly disguised ) which also got sanded down, coated with some textured paint and then had some fake plants from Dunelm Mill stuck to it. It came as quite a shock to learn that these are her favorite pieces in the viv!
I don't exactly have a problem with thermometer wires at the moment because, and I'm ashamed to admit this openly, I don't currently have a thermometer permanently in any of my vivs (except the crestie's RUB; I'm overly cautious with this wee guy as I'm new to keeping them); I'm currently using one thermometer to check all my viv temps in the morning and again in the evening.
The bottom iv is home to my leo, who moved out of his humble home into this more lavish viv at the same time P moved. The leo's old viv will be donated to he crestie when it's a little bigger. |

Posted - 22/05/2010 : 04:04:06 I bet that Porphyria loves her new viv (am I right in remembering that she was moved into it fairly recently? Forgive the brain fog if I am wrong ). Think your DIY internal viv decorating has certainly worked. One thing I wanted to ask....is it slit bamboo she is peeking out of? Where did you get it and how did you make it so the edges werent sharp? The only problem with the vivs and getting the set up right is all the wires and how to hide them! My viv looks like yours, with the digital thermometer wires all visible and havent worked out a way to hide them in a way that stops Silvesta digging them up!
Who is housed in the bottom viv? Like the look of that too!

Posted - 21/05/2010 : 23:57:54 Thanks all.
Yeah, I'm really pleased with how the setup ended; most of my diy jobs look awful! (Quick edit: when I say diy job, I don't mean the vivs themselves are diy, just the interior!) Always have great ideas of how I want these things to turn out but the reality is seldom anything like the vision!
So, just to show it off a bit more

Posted - 21/05/2010 : 05:29:14 I had trouble finding her in the 1st pic !!
I think that we have certainly proved that corns can be arboreal, even if they arent supposed to be . Mine are too big to go up in the plants but love winding their way around the branches in their vivs....
