Just fed Beaker it's first fuzzie tonight!
It certainly practices energy conservation as it's yet to strike it's food. :) |

Posted - 13/11/2009 : 18:25:22 Lovely pics of a very beautiful snake. I like the one where it's almost all down and he's so stretched his scales look like little dots!
My Carolina stikes but doesn't constrict. I hold the pinkie on forceps and she snactches it and goobles it right down without bothering to curl up around it. But then she'll also strike at me if she's in the mood! |

@ Hawkeye. It's just over 3 months old (hatched 10-8-09) and weighed 22g prior to the feeding. He was on double pinkies every 5 days but they were going down very quick and not leaving a bump at all so thought it was time to bump up a size. I couldn't spot him this morning but I'll try and check him quietly tonight to see he's ok.
Thanks.
Don't worry about him, he may well stay inactive for a couple of days after this last meal quietly curled up somewhere, digesting his meal and considering his good luck in finding such a large prey at last!

Posted - 13/11/2009 : 11:40:14 Well done!
Just out of interest, how old is he and how much does he weigh?
He looks perfectly happy with his meal there (compliments to the chef, haha) so thanks for sharing the pictures, I enjoyed them.

I have previously jiggled pinkies around using forceps but he's either very clever or very dumb and isn't fooled!
I was worried when I saw the jump in size from pinkie to fuzzie and I'm always amazed how much they can dislocate their jaws.
I know what you mean...if you check out Kellog's latest pics you will see him fitting a jumbo mouse in and it really does look at though it shouldnt fit! But it is so amazing watching their jaws stretch and the way they 'walk' their way down the mouse's body. I am hoping to put up a video of Kellog once I have worked out how to reduce it in size....think it would be interesting to those who have hatchlings and young snakes to see an adult feed.

Posted - 13/11/2009 : 03:09:13 That is fantastic to see MacSpud! So good seeing the little ones moving up and you got some fantastic photos as well. He may just be lazy and never strike or you may be able to encourage him later with the 'pinky dance' (which applies to fuzzies and mice as well!). If he believes it is alive he is more likely to strike.
