Fed Kellog today. He is being fed every 10 days on extra large mice. He took it beautifully (pics to follow soon) but no noticeable bump and was wandering around viv for quite a while before returning to his hide. He is just over 700grams and his last shed was 58inches long at 4yrs 2months old. He is definitely not chubby and is looking lovely and fit. Do I need to increase his feed and if so what to? Only have one extra large mouse left in freezer so will be needing to buy him new food soon, want to get it right. xxx

My reptile store where i bought romeo from do Super Extra Large Mouse which is huge compared to the normal extra large mouse. Hope that helps |

Posted - 12/10/2009 : 09:53:14 I've suffered from a knowledge-free shop person too: when we first got Bella we were told she was on fuzzies so I went to the local place and got some "fuzzies" - turns out they were small mice! Bella was a tiny little bootlace at the time and shouldn't have been on more than one, maybe two, pinkies at the very most. But in our ignorance we lobbed a mouse at her and she ate it - it took her an hour (some people may remember my panicked posts) but by gum she qas getting that mouse down. It stayed down too and she was none the worse for wear (although she was a fat little snakes for a good four days and did the biggest poo EVER).
We all make mistakes and put our trust in people who SHOULD know what they're doing. Now Romeo is pooing looks like everything's OK? But don't feel bad I felt terrible after "forcing" Bella to eat such a massive meal; thought I'd killed her after having her less than a weel |

Posted - 11/10/2009 : 23:42:05 All sounds good Hiper....just keep waiting and I am sure the wait in handling him is frustrating. Glad he has done first poo, so things are working normally....just have to hope it continues to do so, which it should.

like people have said as long as your tmps are fine and you don't handle him for, IMO about 4 days, he should be fine hun. and like matty suggested 10-14 days till his next (hopefully normal-sized!) meal.
it's certain NOT work a trip to the vets unless you see him swelling up around his mid-section which might mean the food is rotting inside him faster than he can digest it. |

Posted - 11/10/2009 : 21:50:55 Sounds like he's ok
It's been at least two days since he had his feast and no sign of trouble, right? Right now he's probably contemplating his good luck and wondering how to convince you to make a similar offering again, although obviously he'll have to make do with a medium mouse next time.

Posted - 09/10/2009 : 22:35:46 Dont worry about it, we all learn by our mistakes. It's not your fault you were fobed off by some lady who did not have a clue. He should be fine, in the wild they probably eat more than that at times, but then they dont know when there next meal is going to be. It's only "moniterd" in captivity so thy dont get over fed. Personaly I would leave him an extra day before handaling just to make sure he has digested it all (but thats my opinion others may have difrent) I just dread the present he is going to give you in return LOL! As for being on the cold side again dont worry, Missy always goes to the cold side somethimes for the night before she ventures to the warm side. Romeo will know when he needs the heat and will move when he does. In future if the shop does not have the right size mouse in just go for the next one down, its better to slighty under feed one week than over feed(again my opinion) |
