I mentioned in another thread about Asher struggling with a chick. Well these are the photos of that fateful meal .

Not quite sure what he's trying to achieve here....

Standing on his head to try to get leverage....

So bizarre seeing his tongue when he's got a mouthful....

I am definitely NOT doing that again!

I'm so glad Asher isn't the only snake to have struggled with a chick....and I'm not the only owner to have panicked I dread to think about how I'd be if there'd been blood! Texted Casper's owner during it and her suggestion was to go out of the room and leave him to it but I had to stay and watch because he was lose on the lounge floor. I don't think there was a bump at all Razee. To be honest I think I was too traumatised to notice.

I've never given mine chicks but I did give Apollo a jumbo once when I had nothing else to give him. It was huge! Biggest mouse I've ever seen! An ex breeder female I think as it had a massive belly too. Took him 45 minutes to eat it!!! I was panicking and thinking he was going to hurt himself when he finally succeeded... he didn't need to eat for a month after that meal and stayed in his warm hide for nearly a whole week.

It's not as gruesome as it sounds, you get he frozen chick, grab it at the top of the leg and pull up towards the head. The thigh literally comes away with a loud pop, nice and neat. There's not even any blood when it defrosts. Normally, anyway.

Eeeek! Well, maybe we'll try it......a looooooonnnnnngggggg time in the future

Not sure about hacking limbs off, I don't mind feeding appropriate diets and I've never been overly squeamish.....but.....hmmmmmm

I've never given mine chicks.
My Sidney and Penny would be big enough now to eat my little Peanut (parrot) so in our house birds are off the menu!!

Hahaha, Luna struggled with her first one too, so since then I usually pop the legs off at the top of the thigh while still frozen, they make a great treat for the babies and she gets them down really easy. Don't need to with my current batch though, they're actually a lot smaller than others I've had.

Yep, looks familiar, now imagine his mouth stretched to completely see through, and blood welling and bubbling from the side, me panicking, and you've got the picture what happened when I fed Twid a chick, too. I thought he'd give up, too.

Did the chick leave a bump? Twid's almost didn't after all that.

Good pics, though :-)
