A few photo's to show how easy Jake can take a large mouse. I don't know why I ever worried about moving up sizes
Jake is a CB 2012 and weighs 220grams

If you need to upgrade when he grows bigger, you can always get him on XL / Jumbo mice... the size varies, anything from 26 g + , some are almost the same size as large mice, some are massive ( around 35 g ).
I feed Baz and Twid on XL one feed, and alternate with just a large on the next feed, every 10 - 14 days ( they're CB 10 and 11 ).
Jake looks quite big now, compared to the little hatchie in the signature picture :-) |

Agree mate snakes don't understand a treat, its just a meal to them. Once Jake is larger I will mix his diet up a touch but its mice for a while for him. Thanks again for the advice. |

Good decision I think Ian . I know some people like to give something other than mice as 'treats' but they really aren't necessary. All the snake worries about is that it is being fed .

I feed my eldest corn day old chicks every other week, alternating with rats, because he is very thin and needs the extra nutrition. He is about 650g and, at times, it can seem like he's struggling with them. I certainly wouldn't offer them to anything smaller than him and there isn't really any need to. Corns are quite happy and will stay healthy on a feeding schedule of mice as long as it's done right. I'm guessing he's still young and growing so personally I think large mice once a week is fine until he gets older and heavier, when you can move the feeds to every 10/14 days.

At 220g I wouldn't have thought he'd be big enough for a DOC? The 'hips' are quite wide on them as I understand it. Would stick with mice personally (but lots of others mix the food up a bit so there's nothing wrong I don't think, just I prefer to stick with mice - especially having read the poo stories ;) ) |
