Well, had a lovely surprise. My Mum went and got me a lovely early birthday present. Please may I introduce you to my new acquisition, Delilah. She is a normal (going by Ian's Morph guide, a Carolina phase). I really wasn't expecting her and she is just a gem. I got a few pictures when I was popping her into her new home, so here she is

And lastly, a pretty girl face

I genuinely wasn't expecting her at all but am thrilled to bits with her. She is quite the cheeky girl burrowing round her new home and has decided to impersonate a tortoise by sitting in her new coco hide and sticking her head out so she can watch the world go by

It's weird, but I think normals actually get uglier before they grow into their stunning selves. I love them when they are young and almost anery-like, then they grow a bit of an ugly (in my opinion) orange background colour, and then the orange really comes through and they turn out to be really, really awesome :) I have to say I already like yours a lot though, she has really nice colours for her age. As for the googly eyes... isn't that the cutest thing about young snakes? xD

smart bunny - I really am looking forwards to seeing how they look when they are "grown up" but am genuinely enjoying having them from little ones. I know it is a bit sad but I have taken pics of Cathy every month since I have had her and will do the same with Delilah, it will be lovely to see the changes. I have NO excuse as to why I thought Delilah would go a bit duller as she grew older. I think it is because I hadn't separated the normal/carolina out in my head and have the Kathy and Bill Love book which shows the different localities in the US. She is going to be one bright girl, that is for sure. Cathy is already starting to yellow on her cheeks and throat, hence the new photo shoot when she is done digesting!

Blackcat - I must admit to having a soft spot for geckos. I haven't really seen many of the newer morphs and colours out there but when I was younger I grew up in Malta and they just walk around minding their own business over there in there thousands. They aren't considered a pest or a pet. I had a little baby one that used to live in a crack in my bedroom wall and I was allowed to feed it if I had been good that day (the power of persuasion really worked well with that, I loved feeding him/her!) Little Ludo is really handsome - how big will he get (I must admit to not having a CLUE when it comes to the crested variety!)

Thanks Fi, never thought I would like a lizard but I am so hooked on Ludo already, he is such a little character when I have him out

Yeah, as others have said Fi, normals get brighter with age, not duller! They will be a gorgeous contrast to each other when older (not that they aren't now) as Cathy will be startling white and Delilah gloriously orangey red/brown!!!

Do you know what, I think I might just do the same as Cathy really has changed, both in colour and especially the shape of her neck. I will get Delilah out next week for a proper photo op too so that they are both up to date photos. I love your two new additions, they are fantastic

Sorry to hear you haven't been so well the last few days.
I had to update my sig to include my house snake Hoggle and my latest addition: Ludo the Crested gecko.

Thanks Blackcat - I am going to get on the sig thing today (and one for somebody else that I promised to do). I haven't had a great few days seizures wise but feel much more human today, so I think some cropping and the likewise will be happening very soon. I want to keep the one I have of Cathy as she looks so little on it so resizing and Delilah appearing alongside her is going to happen very soon!

Lovely little girl - can't wait for more photos and you will have to update your signature so Delilah doesn't feel left out.

Do you know what Luke, it is funny you should say that as I went back to have another look at Ian's Morph Guide just to double check I had the right kind of locality down and I hadn't looked down the page at the photos of the older snakes. WOW did I have a surprise at the colours that Delilah might go! The photos I put up aren't great, she has quite a lot of orange in her already so I am wondering how much that colour will come out as she gets older. I am definitely in no hurry for her to grow up though!

I am hoping to get some better pictures of her once she has settled in and had a feed. And I remain a total convert too - I can't believe how lucky I am to have such a beautiful young girl

Cyrus' colours haven't started to dull if anything he's getting brighter, he's dull ATM because he's going into blue for the 2nd time in like 3 weeks talk about a growth spurt his last 2 sheds were 3 weeks apart now this one is too, then again he does eat like a pig haven't weighed him but my guess is he's way over the 30g mark looks as big as my mates normal and she's 50g :o

Aww, thank you so much everyone

I have shown Mum this page and she felt really chuffed with herself. She didn't realize that most people's Mums wouldn't buy them a snake

(Not so) little Delilah seems to be settling in very well. We have had lots of looking round our new home, she has let me see her drink 3 times already (first time she glided along the side of side of her bowl, drank very delicately and then fell in!).

I had never thought about getting a Carolina, but I am a total convert. The colours are absolutely stunning considering they are naturally occurring in the wild. I know her colours will dull as she gets older, but she is still going to be beautiful.

Her eyes really are a little big (googly even) and I hope she is going to grow into them! She doesn't have "clean" saddles or a clean pattern on her head but I think that just adds to her appeal all the more for me.

Her name just came to me when I saw her as my Mum and I are both fans of a band called The Dresden Dolls, and my favourite song by them is called Delilah (so not the Tom Jones song, or the one by The Plain White T's called Hey There Delilah). I am not going to link to the song as there are some rude words in it, but it is on YouTube.

Can't wait to get her out next week for a proper photo shoot and a proper feed. She is a great weight already (18g) and am really looking forwards to seeing what kind of feeding response she has.

Anyway, thank you all so much for all your lovely comment about my new addition - I know she is just a little normal, but as Razee and Luke have said, I do think having a wild type corn snake is a lovely thing, as if it wasn't for them, none of the gorgeous morphs now being bred would be out there at all.

I have been having great fun looking at her markings through the glass at her. She hasn't been shy at showing me them either! She has been having lots of fun looking round her new home.

Aww, she's pretty, huge eyes - I always think everyone should have at least one normal - or Carolina :-) And what an amazing Mum.

Oh, just thought - Cathy's got a sister now! She won't be the only snakey now....
