Hello I need some help. My corn snake now is 2 plus years old.must be over 4 foot ..I'm still absolutely terrified of him but we still feed him, clean him and he's in a 3 ft viv and he feed on large mice 2 a week .can I have some pointers please.
He's very active all of a sudden and off his food..could it be breeding time???he is so big now and I'm wondering does he need more food??bigger viv??
We bought our son spike but as ever we have looked after him but he's a monster now and I need to know how to look after him now hes this size...spike is not handled at all..he gets spoke too a lot but Iv never been able to pick him up...
Any advice will help please and thanks in advance xx

One large mouse a week should be more than enough, my corn is of similar age and length but she has always been handled. The worst part of being bitten by a snake (especially a corn) is worrying about it. If he bites it will probaly be a quick tag rather than a feed bite. They don't really hurt but can bleed a bit. I'm sure someone a bit nearer than me would be happy to show you how to handle & look after him to get your confidence back up! Best way to think about it is : at the end of the day it's a wild animal and you should expect to be bitten at some point. Just get stuck in and he will get better. Gloves will deter them from biting if you wanted a safety net at first

Yeah I agree, 2 large a week sounds like too much, probably should be on 1 large every 10 days or so. I hope you do get up the courage to get him out - I'm sure he must be used to your scent by now if you've been caring for him for 2 yrs, so I would just go for it and get him out (wear gloves if you want the confidence) - or leave the viv door open when he is active and let him come out on his own, then pick him up once out so he can't go dashing into his hide! I expect him being off his food is just due to breeding season so try not to worry about that - they can fast for months!

Prob breeding season getting to him my 2 boys r the same at the moment as well ........ 2 years and 4ft wow my big boy is 5 and 4.5ft and my other boy is 2 and just over 3ft lol 2 large mice a week i think is quite a lot but im sure somone else can help more with that lol my big boy is fed 1x large every 10 days and my 2 year old is on a medium ever 10 days (when they eat lol) with holding him ive herd putting something in the wiv with your sent on can help him get used to your smell if not some gloves if u r worried about getting taged and take it slow and give it time ..... There will be more people about soon that will be able to give u some fab advice but good luck with him hope u get to hold him soon xx
