Posted - 03/03/2013 : 17:15:20 One large mouse a week should be more than enough, my corn is of similar age and length but she has always been handled. The worst part of being bitten by a snake (especially a corn) is worrying about it. If he bites it will probaly be a quick tag rather than a feed bite. They don't really hurt but can bleed a bit. I'm sure someone a bit nearer than me would be happy to show you how to handle & look after him to get your confidence back up! Best way to think about it is : at the end of the day it's a wild animal and you should expect to be bitten at some point. Just get stuck in and he will get better. Gloves will deter them from biting if you wanted a safety net at first |

Posted - 03/03/2013 : 10:18:34 Yeah I agree, 2 large a week sounds like too much, probably should be on 1 large every 10 days or so. I hope you do get up the courage to get him out - I'm sure he must be used to your scent by now if you've been caring for him for 2 yrs, so I would just go for it and get him out (wear gloves if you want the confidence) - or leave the viv door open when he is active and let him come out on his own, then pick him up once out so he can't go dashing into his hide! I expect him being off his food is just due to breeding season so try not to worry about that - they can fast for months! |
