Posted - 12/06/2012 : 20:21:26 At the beginning of the season, I bred my Lavender girl to my Ghost Motley boy and she produced 9 viable eggs. I didn't expect to get anything specific out of this pairing (was just shooting for some het for Motleys) so I didn't think anything of it when they started pipping yesterday. I get up this morning to check on them and look at what was staring up at me. Imagine my shock to find out that my Lavender girl is het for Motley.
I'm super stoked, I had no idea. I wasn't too sure on the hets for either parent. So far only two are out of the egg, the other is a normal...whom I'm guessing is now a het for Motley, right? :D Others have pipped, but no one has of yet made it out of egg. I'll take more pics as things progress, but I just had to share this little cutie. |

Posted - 13/06/2012 : 18:02:03 :) Thank you so much everyone, I greatly appreciate your comments and compliments! I have been keeping close watch over the eggs for the past few hours. All 9 have pipped, though there are three that are taking their own sweet time to leave the egg. :D So far the count is 1 Anery Motley, 1 Normal Motley and 4 Normals. The remaining three look to be normals as well, but I won't know for certain until they climb out. I popped the two Motleys, the Anery is a male and the Normal looks to be female, so I believe they are the pair I will be holding onto. :D I may also hang on to a Normal female....just in case anything should happen (heavens forbid!) to the female Motley. I will try to get pictures at some point today, but for now I am letting them get adjusted to life out of the egg. ;) |

the normal hatchlings will be 100% het motley. which they would have been even if the lavender female wasn't het motley (which she is) |

Posted - 12/06/2012 : 23:26:07 What a bonus prize. Now you have an idea of the hets of your lavender you can try other pairings that match her too. |

Posted - 12/06/2012 : 22:58:43 :D Thank you so much, everyone! I appreciate the compliments and comments. So by complete accident, I seem to have lucked out...and in more ways than one. I didn't realize that the hatchlings would be het for Motley, Lavender AND Hypo....so now my head is spinning. On top of that, this little hatchling is an Anery Motley, which proved my Lavender girl out to be het for Anery and Motley both. WEeeeeee! :D One more has climbed out of the egg, it also is a normal....but both normals certainly look to be het for Motley, as their back spots go way far down their back. Unfortunately both have checkered bellies, so no full Motley for them. I'm still super excited, and will take Figs' advice and hold back a pair to make me some Hypo Lavender Motleys in a couple of years. Yay! |
