Cereus my butter corn hasn't eaten for about 3 weeks apparently so I tried him again today... Well I've never seen a corn snake eat a day old chick so fast!

Sorry the pics are blurry it was in his feeding box which is translucent so he can't see people through it properly as apparently he doesn't like being watched.

Also some pics from this morning when I found them both under one hide despite having 2.

Chicks would proberly be possible at 2 and a half years by the rate she is currently growing.

What do you mean by this?
Sorry I'm a little Dim...

Thanks, with the rate yours is growing she looks to be on her way to eating chicks at Cereus' age.

I know what you meant :)
Georgina Posted - 03/06/2012 : 17:40:52
thats fair enough, i just mean how other people keep them may be different to you, meaning people on here x
AcidicAngel Posted - 03/06/2012 : 17:38:26
He keeps them the same as me but in different sized vivs as he's the one I learnt off.
Georgina Posted - 03/06/2012 : 17:36:09
they will be all normals unless your two have any extra hets that you know of.

i understand that your uncle keeps snake, and his are perfeclty kept and healthy but he may not keep them how others do, if that makes sense. i know 3 people that keep their snake completl differently to me and they are all fine although in my eyes they keep them wrong. if that makes any sense at all.
AcidicAngel Posted - 03/06/2012 : 17:30:12
I'll defo separate the male into his 'RUB' if this is OK? I am prepared for non feeders and have been taught for 2 years by my uncle how to force feed if necessary. Also I am prepared for if the shop lets me down as I will then sell on according to morph.

I'm not an argumentative person, in fact I tend to cower from conflict which is why I try not to get in to arguments...
Georgina Posted - 03/06/2012 : 17:20:03
thats fine, im not trying to start an argument.

you are more than likley to get all normals all het Anery, Amel, Hypo. which a breeder would normally sell on for 5 pounds each. and be prepared for non feeders, you may fine you will get stuck with 20 normals unable to home them, as shops often let people down.

also you should seperate your male after the female is gravid to reduce stress on her x

Yes I have room for 30+ hatches, they will be in separate tubs in a 'RUB' on top of the other viv with a heat mat and stat on for them.

The shop has said they will give me £20 each for them as that's what they give all their suppliers for corn snakes, they will then sell them between £30 ad £45 dependent on morph.

If I had waited I would have been waiting 3+ years as that's when I'll be moving out, plus like I said although I should have quarantined I know how he was kept before I got him, I know there is and never was anything wrong with him.

Up until a week before I got him he was eating fine but he only stopped as my uncle had to move one of his females into the same room as him causing him to get the scent of a female and want to breed.

I don't want anything to turn into an argument as this is what it's coming across as to me...
Georgina Posted - 03/06/2012 : 17:07:44
do you have room for 30 + hatches? and them money the shop gives you will barley cover the cost of them. thas what i mean by responsibility, if you couldnt quarantine then you should have waited to get another snake.
AcidicAngel Posted - 03/06/2012 : 17:03:02
I have the room for him but I couldn't quarantine him in any other room but my own. I have his feeding tub which is a 'RUB' that I could set up with a heat mat but he'd still be in my room on top of the other vivarium.

I'm breeding as my local Reptile Shop wants me to supply them with a batch either this year or next year and I want to breed, I have for a few years now. I already breed tropical fish, difficult ones at that, so I told my mum I wanted to do something different. She agreed I could as long as they were in my own room. I have the incubator and everything ready and have read and read about breeding corns, using this site's information. Even asked my uncle about breeding since he has done it himself.
Georgina Posted - 03/06/2012 : 16:54:58
as a keeper you are responsible for them. quarantining them is your respnsabily. if do not have the room for another snake why are you breeding them?
AcidicAngel Posted - 03/06/2012 : 16:51:22
He did say 2 1/2 but I'm pretty sure I remember him hatching him in late 2008/early 2009 from his pair of butters...

I know I really should have quarantined him but A. I had no where to Quarantine and B. My mum would have killed me for keep the snake in any room but my own...
Georgina Posted - 03/06/2012 : 16:47:30
i think if i had all them my oh would leave and i would be alone lol

he does look older but if he is from your uncle and he says hes 2 1/2 then i dunno thats your call

regardless of where he came from, you still need to quarantine him :)

there is no way to age a corn, they are all different and all grow at the own rate x
AcidicAngel Posted - 03/06/2012 : 16:44:22
I thought you said he looked older?

I know the person I got him off, another uncle *eye roll*, so I know how all his reptiles are kept as he has loads.
To date he has;
2 Red Tailed Boas.
3 female corns in a huuuge 5ft viv(all proven as he has bred all of them with his 2 males)
2 male corns in a 4ft viv.
3 Brazilian Rainbow Boas(in their own split room with the Red Tailed on the other side)
1 Paraguayan Rainbow Boa(in it's own 3ft viv)

Yeah there's no wonder he lives alone...
Georgina Posted - 03/06/2012 : 16:37:23
you should quarantine a new snake for 3 months in a seperate room before putting near your other reps :) he may not be old enough as he is below the guideline age.
AcidicAngel Posted - 03/06/2012 : 16:33:06
I put him in with her and she started shedding which I was told meant she was ready for breeding as she was shedding to release the pheromones. Yes he's defo male, had him probed and it went in 10 scales, twice.
