thanks everyone, i just love her so much she really does make me laugh, like when she wants my attention ive noticed she goes under the wood chips goes into her cave and like lifts the cave up and she does the same for her branch. it drives me mad because im scared shel hurt herself but she soon stops when i walk over to see her.

and thanks, personally i would of liked an albino corn snake but shel do haha

You should have a hide at each end of the viv. A cardboard box with a hole in it will do if you are strapped for cash, there are lots of ideas for homemade hides in the DIY section.
Redshift Spec Posted - 17/04/2012 : 21:04:20
I'm going to get shot for saying this but I'd move the heat mat and stick it to the side of the viv. It'll help reduce the risk of burns etc. It isn't ideal but it would probably be safer than leave it on the floor :)

Flare is a beautiful snake by the way :) I'm really jealous
Mamma Posted - 17/04/2012 : 21:04:11
he should have a hide at the hot and end the cool end of the viv, so moving the hide away wont help xx
Mamma Posted - 17/04/2012 : 21:02:57
if you can get pics of her skin and the possible scale damage that would help us identify if it is burns or not xx
xkirsten92x Posted - 17/04/2012 : 20:57:11
ok i will buy one when i get paid, i assumed everything was ok as my boyfriend set it all up for me and hes got a burmese python and he used to have another corn snake too. its just been recently ive noticed her skin being different in areas. my boyfriend did suggest that i move her cave into another area of the viv but i havent been able to do that yet.

she also has no teeth :S

You can get a thermometer on ebay for £2 :)
Mamma Posted - 17/04/2012 : 20:53:35
you will need a digital thermometer too. The probe of that goes in the hot end of the housing. The strip ones that stick on the wall are no good. Digital are accurate xx
Redshift Spec Posted - 17/04/2012 : 20:53:07
Damn Mamma got there first and said it better! I'm still new at this and wanted to come across as knowledgeable ;)
Redshift Spec Posted - 17/04/2012 : 20:52:16
The thermostat is basically a box that you plug your mat into that controls the temperature So mat plugs into stat, stat plugs into wall and there is a probe from the stat which you put onto the heat mat to read the temps. I accidentally didn't have one on mine (long story but I ended up plugging something else into it) and my heat mat hit temps of 40C up. Which, basically is enough to seriously hurt the snake. I don't want to come across as a scare monger but I'd get one asap. Its cheaper than treating a sizzled snake :)
Mamma Posted - 17/04/2012 : 20:52:06
yes. You place the probe onto the heat mat. The heat mat plugs into the thermostat, set your temp to the correct temp on the dia; and the thermostat gets plugged into the mains

ahh that makes sense, well the matts buried with wood chips, would the termostat be on the matt itself then?
Mamma Posted - 17/04/2012 : 20:47:58
you need a thermostat on the mat. If the mat gets too hot the snake will burn. The flaking you were talking about could be burns if you dont think shes due a shed.
xkirsten92x Posted - 17/04/2012 : 20:46:19
ummmm, noooo i dont think so, could it be too hot and thats why shes flaking?
