This is the snake I just brought home a couple days ago. First time snake owner. So far it has gone beautifully. He/she is eating well, is quite tame, and had its first shed with us tonight. That was neat to watch!

I purchased it from a pet store and it was sold as an "albino". Since reading on this forum I have discovered there are several colors/patterns/morphs. So many beautiful colors of the rainbow. They told me it is approximately 6 months old. I have not measured or weight yet.

Anyway, since going through all the possibilities, I'm thinking my snake looks like a snow but of course being a newbie I'm not sure. Thought I would ask you all for your opinions.

Here are some photos of him/her.

Hi Diver and welcome to the forum.

Looking at the shedding pics it looks as though snakey has shed in bits rather than all in one long piece. You will just need to double check that all of the shed has come off and especially will need to check that the eye caps and tail tip have come off If any of the old skin is still attached, trying letting the snake slide through a damp towel or flannel; this will often get rid of the stubborn bits

Would like to add my pennies worth for the morph. I'd say a snow corn. As he/she ages, there will be a fading of the pink tones, which will turn to white and some yellow coming through around the neck. Lovely little baby you have!

yup ditch the heat rock. and that aspen doesnt look like any i have ever seen.

DO NOT under any circumstance listen 100 percent to shops. i can say that all of us have been mis advised by atleast one store. one guy told me they are aboreal!

turn the rock off, you can get a mat delivered next day from surrypets for 10 pounds.

and you say that you have another heat sorce? is it a lamp? does it have a stat and a guard?

what are your current temps?

Deffo ditch the heat rock, they really aren't good for snakes. It would be safer with no heat than with he rock.

Like latabob says you MUST get rid of the heat rock, lods of my friends have had there snakes almost killed by the burns they got from it. And what type of aspen is that? Doesn't look familiar? Thanks, Jamie
Diver Posted - 30/03/2012 : 03:14:19
The shavings are aspen bedding (NOT pine)which is highly recommend and used here for snakes. I had three different stores recommend the heat rock that I bought. I have been looking into the pads but have not been able to find any in my area, and no the rock is not the only heat source.
lotabob Posted - 29/03/2012 : 18:35:11
YOU have work to do urgently. The wood shavings you have the snake on look very very much like pine. Pine is toxic to reptile and give off deadly vapours when heated up. If its pine or you cant say for definite that it isn't then you HAVE to remove it all, wash down the tub and use kitchen roll as substrate until you can get some reptile safe substrate.

Second point, you have a heat rock. They are very dangerous with snakes as they can and do burn snakes. If that is your only heat source it needs changed for a heat mat and thermostat ( I dont see any stat probes ), see the stickies for setting up a faunarium and the caresheet.
