Posted - 13/08/2011 : 02:33:17 Say hello to Mirky. He's a 3 foot Grey Rat Snake but I think his grand-pappy must have been a Rattlesnake. I'm re-homing him from the SSPCA and we are currently negotiating a truce. As soon as the viv was opened he started rattling. I eased my hand in and he battered lumps out of it and tagged me several times. Once he was exhausted he let me pick him up and he settled down to check me out. At one point he looked like he was lining up for another tag ... on my nose.
Had a good chat with the SSPCA lassie who wanted to ensure that I could manage him. He eventually settled down and coiled around my arm with just the odd rattle and hiss. I think this was through boredom more than anything else. He's settling down and just gave me several welcoming 'Glasgow kisses' today. No tags just head slaps. Yea! He's in a temp RUB and he thinks that Toblerone tubes are for wimps.
Did a deal and also picked up a newly arrived young (approx 1 year old) Normal Corn, very similar to Taggart (prev. Tiddles) He's bright as a button and a little cracker. I'll post pics of him soon.
Hope you like them, I love a beastie with a bit of 'character.

Posted - 14/08/2011 : 23:13:53 No problem with first feed and he actually seems to be calming down already. He only buzzed a little when I took him into the 'restaurant' and he didn't play with his food. It went down in no time. As you can see he was well satisfied with the cuisine and went for a nap to sleep it off.
Little Woody also ate at the same table and is a gentle taker. He did his own version Mirkey's nap & roll. I'll just have to buy another bottle of The Glenlivet to avoid any jealousy between them. The things I do for my animals.
BURP! ZZzzzzzzzzzz:

Posted - 13/08/2011 : 21:45:16 Thanks again GP. I checked with the local pet shop and the guy said 6 ft is average. It's not a problem but I'm gonna need a bigger house.
BTW, are these images remaining linked and showing all the time? I'm not sure if Dropbox needs constant access or whether I'll need to use another image host. |

Posted - 13/08/2011 : 13:51:01 He-he! Glad you like him.
As soon as he squared up to challenge me I knew we were going to get on like a house on fire. The tags were actually more like slaps with open jaws and not intended as bite-strikes. Taggart has had a 'better' grip of my pink bits and left a deeper impression. Granted that was due to bad aim when I was feeding him.
I'm looking forward to feeding him today. I don't think it will be a genteel affair and I'll try to get some photos. lol
Thanks GP for fixing the image code links, I knew I had muxed ip things just as I hit the Post button. Do you reckon he's good for 6 feet?
Mamma, It's a real shame when fiesty animals are overlooked for so long but better to wait for someone willing and able to handle him rather than someone who would end up returning or abandoning him. Other folk might have had young kids to consider and quite rightly went for a Corn instead. No point causing a kid to turn phobic. |
