So her previous owner said she was on 1 small mouse a week? Thought this was a bit small for her size so tried her with two medium mice and she gulped them down no problem. Theres not even a noticable lump so next week wil be trying a large mouse.

Few piccys....

feeling super paranoid bout my lovely girl now. Looks like a diet and some hill climbing is in order!

I'm thinking the same Hannah. When I saw the size of her I thought the mouse looked way to small but then realised she was probably on small mice to try and get her weight down. I feed my chunky girl 1 large every 14 days or an xlarge every 3 weeks

She is absolutely lovely though

how long is a piece of string? lol each snake is different but probably around 600gs maybe?

next time you handle her put her at the bottom of the stairs and try to encourage her to go up them, start small like 1-2mins and then build it up as she gets used to it - it will be something to get her moving a bit more and help burn the mice off a bit better

the stairs are like a treadmill for a snake!

the previous owners had her from their daughter. She was bred last year apparently. Will make sure she is only fed every 7 to 10. What sort of weight would be suitable for her size?
HannahB Posted - 05/08/2011 : 19:41:25
personally she does look a little rotund - especially towards the rear end but others may disagree..

but I'd keep a gap of at least 7-10days between feeds, were her previous owners her only owners that you know of? just thinking that if they weren't they could have been told to give her something that small to try and get her weight down a bit (just my thoughts )

she is beautiful though!

do you really think she's to big? She is 4.5ft and 730g i thought she was ok but if you think she's a little porky then a diet may be in order!
HannahB Posted - 05/08/2011 : 19:17:30
she's lovely although tbh one large mouse every 10-14 days would probably be plenty for her.. no disrespect to her previous owners but she looks a little chunky so it wouldn't harm her to have a longer gap with feeding

she's beautiful, and that mouse looks tiny next to her
