Posted - 03/11/2010 : 18:21:50 Thanks for the advice, I experienced a bit of striking with my old snake, but that was a King snake, which after getting it, I was told probably wasn't the best one to start off with. |

Posted - 03/11/2010 : 17:18:30 I second Red in saying to leave him for the week before feeding him. It won't harm him going a little longer feed wise, and theres less chance of a regurge if he's had the whole week to settle in. As for getting strikey,I've not come across that of yet and I've had Loki nearly 3 months now. Just gaged it by his size and growth.

Posted - 03/11/2010 : 17:00:14 Yes offer him a pinky but i would leave him a week before offering food so that he settles and I wouldn't handle him either for a week. I feed mine every 7 days and not had a problem with them striking at me. They have both been very well behaved. Calm before the storm maybe. |

Posted - 03/11/2010 : 16:41:23 I haven't fed him yet, only got him yesterday, and he was fed saturday, so I will try him on a pinky on friday/saturday depending on how he seems. I was told 1 pinky per week, although if he gets strikey after about 5 days then feed him, is that right? |

Posted - 03/11/2010 : 13:49:02 He looks about the same length as mine just fatter, mine are 12 weeks. What is he eating and how often do you feed him? |

Posted - 03/11/2010 : 13:44:02 Thanks, not too sure, didn't really think to ask, just asked about feeds and things. Anyone care to take a guess via it's size? |

Posted - 03/11/2010 : 13:19:14 Thanks for the explanations. Kind of makes a bit more sense now. I just need to learn about all the other different kinds now lol. And yes, he is gorgeous even though I say so myself, I am sure he will settle in fine, still trying to think of a name. |

Posted - 02/11/2010 : 22:37:41 He/she is gorgeous. Don't worry about not knowing anything about the different colours/morphs. Before to long you will be almost an expert and have a long list of all the ones you want. Take a look at this website for a crash course http://iansvivarium.com/cornsnakemorphs.php |

Posted - 02/11/2010 : 22:36:26 amelanistic = a(meaning lack of)-melanistic(meaning melanin black pigment) = lack of black pigment melanin.
a morph is just the 'paint job' of the cornsnakes caused by variation from normal genes - exactly the same as a black labrador, a yellow labrador and a chocolate labrador are all the same except for the colour. |

Posted - 02/11/2010 : 22:26:53 Yes he does have very bright red eyes, they look amazing. Thanks for the input :) |

Posted - 02/11/2010 : 22:10:53 yup, an amel means that there is no black pigment in the snakes colouring. A 'natural' corn snake has red, black, yellow/orange colours - yours will not have the black, also you will notice the eyes are red :) he's very pretty :)

Kind of helped there Herriot, thanks for that. So this would be a "amelanistic morph corn snake"?
You could say that but most of us just say amel or amelanistic. Like you wouldn't say boxer breed dog, you'd just say boxer dog. Hope that sounds ok, told you I'm no good at explaining these things! |

Posted - 02/11/2010 : 21:04:09 Ahh no problem slotty, I'm easily confused with the breeds and now morphs and whatnot lol. I'm new to reptiles, it will take me a while to get used to names and stuff, but I am more than willing to learn. |
