This is the clearest picture i could get of the wound. I don't know what happened. i noticed it one morning and at first it looked quite soar and pink. it was deeper then the other scales and looked fairly manky. Recently it has gone white and some other scales have gone abit creased around it. Is this white sign of healing or is it worse?

Same here! The vet said it could of been from the humidity in the viv and seriously doubted it was stress as she said they were friendly gentle snakes. Even though they prefer dry surroundings, she advised id spray same areas in viv with water to add a bit of moisture. Anyhow the vet said i did a good job with the snakes :) Lillie's little wound is just a scar now and she looking good again. Ace is still taking his time with the scales issue but he looks better. When he next shed, i will get some good pictures of him on here and of Lillie again for you to look at. And i know, i haven't posted on this forum for a while either! :)

I am so glad that both Lillie and Ace's health issues seem to be sorting themselves out James. Any idea what trauma might have caused this to happen to them both?

Would be great to see some pics of Ace as he has just shed....I dont think we have seen any recent pics of either of them!

Yes mate ok mate, right but i dont care about that, the issue here is the scales, dont worry about the wound or if they are going to mate. Its about the really greasy and creased looking scales that they both have...

This, it dosn't matter how long they have been together, once the male reaches sexual maturity he will pester the female regardless of wether they have been together since hatchlings.

They are both the right fatness comparing to other corns i have seen, the viv is 4 by 1 foot. They have been in this all their life, i know it was a bit big for them when they were babies but they both were fine with it. This isn't about how they get on because they are fine together always curled up when hiding away and come out together all the time. They are very active. They shed in whole pieces both of them, recently both shed and good ones. I dont really need to co habit to be honest. Lillie's tail is starting to heal by the looks. The scales now are looking a bit better, mainly on Lillie, aces is getting there. I have decreased humidity and feed them Arkvits with their mice. Lillie Female, Ace male. As they have been together since hatchings, mating season shouldn't affect him with her. I dont think there is any wounds underneath the scales. Pictures i take dont show how creased and dented the scales really are.

My local reptile shop is run by a family which i have never listened to, They have a 16 year old on the till who will know nothing. Snakes have run as pets in my family for many years but usually pythons so the whole reason i came here instead of asking them is because you lot own corns and will know better. I live in norwich mate and i made sure both when i put anything in there i disinfect it and its not dangerous to the snakes in sharp bits or bits it can get trapped in.

Although there are many issues with Cohabitting, i wont go on about it, mainly because i do it myself, so i cant really preach!
The only thing i will mention in relation is if you dont know the sexes of the snakes, then you need to separate them until you can be sure they are both the same sex. It is around their sort of age that they become sexually mature, when males become mature, they are relentless, they will hound the female into sex, which puts huge stress on her, may cause her not to eat, which in turn, when she becomes gravid, can cause her serious harm, sometimes, in rare cases, death.
Pet shops are sometimes able to accurately sex snakes, although many, especially none specialist places dont know their ar*e from their elbow, especially when it comes to probing!
I honestly would separate them for now, at least until you are certain.

Can you get some more pics please, specifically the affected areas, creased scales is fine, but if there are wounds beneath them, then there is something else going on, its highly unlikely that they are doing this to each other, and unlikely that they would catch themselves on a bit of bark, or the like, unless it was very sharp. Where abouts do you live? do you know of a good rep place nearby?
DannyBrown91 Posted - 14/05/2010 : 17:04:49
Do you know the dangers of cohabiting? Particularly in hatchlings. Do you know their sexes?

I'm not very knowledgable on rep/snake diseases but as devilsmistress said it could well be one, it may be worth getting checked out by a vet to see wether there are any health problems and if so it may be worth quarantining (Spelt correctly?) them untill you know they are back to full health.

Maybe putting them both in seperate RUBs and giving the viv a thorough clean, don't put them back together untill you know there is nothing wrong and that they are both back to full health.

How fat are they? Scales and bend when they are fat or they are in too small viv or remain curled up for very long periods of timme and sleep in the same position everytime. Although I would go to a vet to be sure.
devilsmistress Posted - 14/05/2010 : 15:33:32
You say both? If I were you Id get them to a vet, Chances are they have some kind of infection or virus they are passing to and frow each other. Im not getting into a big debate but its one reason alot of people advise against co habiting-Spread of health issues!

Alright mate
They both roughly same age around 2 years and 3/4 months.
They always get on really well and have never had any problems since they both been hatchlings.
Its stressing me out that why this going on with both their scales creasing.
Its all over both their bodies with some areas looking allright and both them have shad recently aswell mate.
DannyBrown91 Posted - 14/05/2010 : 10:15:31
If she has had her tail trapped between 2 things then that could cause the wound and the bending of the scales, thats why i asked.

How old are the snakes you are keeping together?
n/a Posted - 13/05/2010 : 23:43:31
There could be a chance of that. She is a very jumpy snake at times. I see them out at same time and if other snake touches her tail she shoots off. Maybe she got caught and ripped the scales of on one of the logs.

Im more concerned to be honest about both there scales recently creasing and like dented. Do u know whats causing that because i find nothing on internet.

But on both my snakes the scales are looking creased and dented. whats this a sign of?

Is there a chance she may have got her tail trapped in something?
