Fed Diesel this morning and he was really encouraging swallowing it down himself i had abit of pinkie that wasnt mashed i sat it in his mouth with a good bit sticking out and he wolved it down looked like he was really enjoying it. I hope next feed will be even better and this problem feeding will be a thing of the past.Its made my day |

This sounds very eww. I really hope it doesn't get to that stage for my babies :/ I have a question, if you cut the mouse in half when frozen, when it defrosts and you pick it p does it insides go everywhere and kinda spill out?H How do the syringes work? I can't picture them mashing up a body for some reason *_*
I sometimes wonder hat people would think of us if they came on this forum and read that we chop up mice and stuff XD |

i got the syringe..looked at it and though omg what do they think im going to feed with that?! it was massive lol i tried it once and decided never again...

I will try that. The syringe was useful but very messy at first. i was experimenting the first time i used it and a pice of pinkie wasnt mashed enough i pressed to hard and shot the mashed pinkie all over my kitchen units it was a mess |

yeah thats right
i got a syringe to use but believe me its more stressful than helpful..
get the pinkie and chop it (when frozen!) lenthways in half, let it defrost then using tweezers and whatever you do to open his mouth put it in his mouth, aura sometimes needs encouragement and sometimes has days where she refuses to eat it all together but iv found that by putting it in her mouth and letting her do the work it is a bit less stressful for her

Thanx everyone for your comments n i will keep you posted on how the next feed goes think i will try just cutting the pinkie into manageable bites for him and putting a piece in his mouth n see how it goes hopefully i wont need to mash it up n use the syringe |

That is fantastic news Carol, especially after that distressing conversation you had with the rep vet - shows how little he knows, or cares  !
It really does sound as though Diesel is learning how to do this by himself, slowly I know but he is improving. It is also really encouraging to all of those with non-feeders, as Electra said.
You are doing such a fantastic job with him and it must be so encouraging seeing it paying off and him beginning to feed naturally. Lets hope and pray that the next feed is the same and that step by step he moves towards feeding on his own.

And you mashed the pinky? How does that work? I'm currently picturing pinkys mashed up like potatoes with some gravy... I wonder if my babies would start eating if I popped a bit of the pinky in their mouths... |

Thats great news, hopefully he carries ont aking the feeds from you and it won't be long before he is taking them all by himself |

aura does that..i put it in her mouth and after about 5mins of doing nothing she eventually starts to swallow it
