My corn snake is cold when i pick him up is this to do with the heat of the viv ? |

it depends really if he's been in the warm or cold end of the viv.............
if he's been sat on the heatmat he'll feel warm, or hand temperature, if he's been in the cool end he will feel cold....... |

I tend to have quite warm hands so my snakes do tend to feel cool to the touch no matter where in their fauns they are but aslong as your temps are ok i wouldnt worry about it. |

28 - 30 degrees feels warm to touch, like putting your hand in a tropical tank that's 27 degrees feels warm to me. Your body CORE temp is 38ish, by the time you get to your hands its a lot cooler. That does depend on how warm your surroundings are tho. My corns and boas that sit on heat feel warm to touch, and the corns are at 28 and the boas are at 33. |

Sometimes my snake feels cold to me, sometimes even a little hot - I think it depends on subtle changes in your hand temperature which you dont notice. I find the same with my tropical fish, sometimes I'm CONVINCED that the waters hotter than usual, but the thermometer tells me I'm just being ditsy! Sometimes if spaghettis been on the hot side for a while she does feel toasty to me, but then again I usually have cold hands. I dont think you need to worry as long as you have a proper temp. gradient, your snake will know when to heat up and cool off.

i have all mine at approx 80.5 F (27 C) so your temperatures aren't too bad. |

Even if the temp in the viv is the right temp, 28-29c, then the snakes may still feel cold to you as natural human body temp is around 38c.
If you're unsure of if it seems cold, take some temp measurements from in the viv in both the cool end, and the warm end and post them here, most of the longer term members here seem to know what they're talking about. |
