I saved Rossi 6 weeks ago, from a farmer who was going to release her into the wild, having no clues on how to look after a snake i say id have her.....cant let it die. 2 weeks into having her and two feeds later all started to go wrong, she regurged her first mouse, waited 7 days then tried again with a smaller mouse, same thing again, now 3 regurges later, and no poo, but drinking i have taken her to an exotic petshop, which said that her rectum had sealed itself, and she was not eating because she knew she couldnt get rid of the poo.....i feel terrible that this has happened on my watch, before we had her she lived in a cardboard bow, no hide, substrate, just water bowl and a mouse periodically thrown in. Me on the other hand bought her the best viv i could buy, heat mat, habistat thermostate, great hid, water bowl, plants, you name it we bought it. She is 2yrs old and is now on 1 pink mouse every 4 days, in a rub instead of her nice viv......i feel terrible.

I really hope that works nicolam. It shows that it must be something that happened before you got her. Will be waiting to here the news that she has left you a very large 'gift', although it must be very strange for her after not going all this time. Poor Rossi.

I have taken her to a recommended vet, and he has given her an antibotic jab...tiny needle, she has also had a mouse...just waitng for the end result, i was sold be the exotic pet shop owener the same medication that the vet recommended, and with regards to the first question, the anul hole had actually healed closed, due to a rot infection, she now has a fully functioning bottom...keep you fingers crossed, i will see the result in the next couple of days...never thought id be excited about a snake pooing. vet said any other probs to go back.

I agree with everything that has been said. Firstly you mustnt feel guilty about this at all - you saved Rossi from a certain death, just imagine if she had been let loose in the wild. And you also saved her from the awful care of that farmer. You must not feel responsible for what has happened. For all you know this may be the result of what happened before you got her and it has only just manifest itself - you just dont know.

You need to get her to a vet that knows about snakes as soon as possible.

Please keep us up to date on how she is doing.

Just take her to a reptile vet, im am sure they will be able to help!
HannahB Posted - 16/11/2009 : 20:20:26
dont feel guilty, its not your fault, you did what you had to and rescued her from a bad life,
id take her to a reptile specialist and see if they can help you out more

When they say her rectum has sealed itself, do they mean it has healed closed, or is she impacted through eating something that she could not digest.

I would say get her to a vet that might be able to help out.

Has it been to a vet?
