Posted - 10/11/2009 : 02:48:57 I just had my first ever go at probing today (under supervision of course) it seemed a lot harder than I thought it actually would be but I did say that I wanted to learn and have my amel stipe checked so two birds and one stone. |

Posted - 09/11/2009 : 23:56:17 The reptile shop where i got him from , the owner (David) said he wont pop any snakes there as he dont like doing it that way he said he will only probe them but he said he lost the probe kit for the hatchling sizes and he thinks my hatchling is a boy from 70% from its tail but said hes unsure Looks like ill have to wait until they find there hatchling probe kit so he can do it on Whisky |

Posted - 09/11/2009 : 23:11:40 if its done wrongly, the greatest risks are prolapse and damaged organs, which at best will leave you with a sterile snake and at worst will leave you with a dead snake :( |

Posted - 09/11/2009 : 20:37:05 i read somewhere (think on trp) about someones snake having some serious damage to the vent area and they think it was due to it being popped incorrectly.. personally i wouldnt recommend doing it yourself - get an experienced person to do it and if need be get more than one person to sex him independantly for you - im going to get two people to sex my royals for me so i have a better idea as to what they are |

Sorry for how blunt this is, but imagine having to have your entire sexual organs REMOVED because you caught them in your zipper.
Most people (men anyway ) have done it at some point. Now think of having the entire lot removed because of it.
I think thats why jeans have buttons nowadays |

Posted - 08/11/2009 : 21:27:15 It's not only the risk to their spine, it's the risk to their internal organs as well. The chance of causing severe trauma and prolapse is high if you're not experienced.

Posted - 08/11/2009 : 20:19:24 If you have never done it, which you have clearly not... DON'T. You could seriously harm your snake if you are not sure what you are doing. |

Posted - 08/11/2009 : 20:18:31 Even if I explained it to you now, you shouldnt do it anyway. Did the shop say wether they would pop it or probe it? I would wait until they will do it for you. |
