I think this belongs in the health section because it could make her fat in the long run

ok I need some advice please guys, a local pet shop has told me that after a general check of my 3yr old corn, they think she should be on Weaned Rats and not Large Mice, they say this because Tofu has a bigger girth than average corns apparently, so needs to be on prey that is the same size as her biggest chunk lol

But I thought that Rats are more fattening than Mice and I do not want her weight to get out of control .. I would feed her every 14 days on weaned but still a little worried because she seems to be doing just fine on Large Mice i.e. I can see a bump when she has eaten one, and i do not want to upset the balance with her if that makes any sense lol

So my question to you guys is ... Do you think I should move my corn onto Weaned Rats or no
Thanks in advance

Ok thanks for all the help guys
I ended up buying large mice as per usual when I went to the pet shop, the dude who said feed her weaned did not comment when I got the mice

gingerpony, now that I have taken a step back and thought of her as one of the masses and not as my pet lol I realise that feeding her more fatty foods because she is fatter is definitely not a good idea!

sioux, I cannot really help or comment on your predicament because I do not understand much about weight, length and age links, I’m really sorry I hope you get some help and answers soon

around 750g max for a fully grown adult is a healthy weight

for the bloke in the pet shop to basically say 'she's fat, so lets feed her more fat' beggars belief!!

weaaner rats are definetly not needed at this size and weight. My adults are all fed medium mice every 1-2 weeks and they're all doing fine - the biggest is 6 years old, around 4.5' and weighs in at around 750g

sorry to go off at a tangent here but you've got me a bit worried.
you say your beautiful 3yr old female corn is 4ft long & 450g -
my male is also 4ft 2" long & weighs 460g BUT he's only about 16 mths old [we've had him since may '08 when he was a 10" hatchling]
can someone please tell me if this is ok???
also, could his relatively large size have anything to do with his "poo problem" that i'm currently discussing on this forum?
lots of help & reassurance please! x

guy in the pet shop seems a bit dim to me, your snake already looks a bit portly (no offence intended!) just because she is "rounder" than most normal corns doesnt mean you should feed her more.

after all, fat people dont need bigger meals.

Just out of interest, how much does she weigh. My male is five and a half feet and weighs 628g, and I believe that is a nice weight.

certainly looks round enough to me.........
as an adult female 1 adult mouse a week is fine, every 10-14 days for a male as they have a slower metabolism. rat weaners wil have too high a fat content as matty said, it's a bit like you living on McDonalds......

Im feeding her 1 Large Mouse every 10 - 12 days

To be honest I wouldnt want her getting any more round. What are you feeding her at the moment (how often)?

seems fine to me,i feed my kings weaners as they will be brumated and need to store the extra fat.Might be becuase rats are dearer than mice lol

yes i have some picture of her from above, i am not sure if they are good enough which is why i have included 2 , here you go

I wouldnt. I think the increase in fat wouldn't do her any good. Have you got a photo of her? (preferably from above).
