I was wondering if anyone could help?

My Corn snake ate two pinkies in my 1st week of having him but since then hasn't eaten. It's now been six weeks since then.

I've tried hiding the pinkie, exposing it high and low, cutting it up and washing it. I've even thawed it in lizard bedding.

He doesn't seem to be interested and spends most of the night very active and practicing escapism.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem and what did you do? Please help!!

Oli

have you tried ALL of these?
1. dip in tuna juice
2. brain the pinkie (make an incision in the head and pull out some brain)
3. thaw as usual and then dip into hot water
4. as above, heat with a hairdryer
5. hold the food on the floor of the tub and wiggle it
6. place snake in small container covered with towel with the pinkie
7. leave the snake with the pinkie in the tub overnight
8. rub the pinkie with a chick or rat
9. cut the side of the pinkie to expose the guts

also, how long the viv been set up correctly now? he may still be feeling stressed. good luck and hope this helps, keep us posted.

Ok, so i tried marinating the mouse fetus in chicken stock, he's not interested. Even if i hold the food at a distance or close he moves in the opposite direction wherever the bate may be. Every option i've been given has been tested, so has anyone else had this situation? What did you do? Please help!

We have taken him to a specialist who firstly told us to try various things, none of which worked. He is in a tank about the length of him which is inside of a three foot viv which has a heat lamp at one end and a heat mat at the other end, under a third of his little tank. The temperature seems to be fine on the thermostat, exactly where it should be.

He doesn't appear to be losing any weight which also strikes me as odd... having not eaten in almostseven weeks you would think he might be losing weight and maybe be inactive but on both counts he is fine.

Perhaps we shall try cutting the pinkie and leaving him on his own throughout the night... he might just get stage fright!

Thanks for your help guys

1. it sounds as if your entire setup has heat on both sides, snakes must have a cool side in order to regulate their body temp, which is entirely dependent upon external sources. 2 heat sources is completely unnecessary, heat mats are better for corns, and as Ive already said, one end must be at around 21c, the other 27-30c.

2. have you got a digital thermometer in your viv? stat dials aren't at all accurate, and there is a high chance you are roasting your snake eg: my stat dial is set to 24c but runs at 30. If you dont have a thermometer I suggest you get one asap.

3. If you havent done so already, weigh your snake on digi scales, and use this weight to monitor changes. Even though he doesnt look he has lost any weight, he probably has.

GP is right (obviously) high temps can can stress and low temps can cause lethargy.

have you tried putting it in a small tub with the pinky overnight?
was it a good feeder previously?

and very importantly.......... what's your set-up and temps like? as this can have a huge impact on stess/non-feeding

How old is he? Young I am assuming has he is on pinkies.
Any change in where you are keeping him - heat, etc?
Have you tried braining pinkie (cutting into head to draw blood)?
Have you left pinkies in over night?
Could feel exposed while eating, give him pinkies then cover him up and leave him alone.

I know nothing really but am sure you will get advice from 'those who know' soon, and they really do know their stuff - trust their advice and they will see you through this, hopefully panic free (they've brought me in from over the edge before when I was panicing about a non-feeder). Hope he feeds soon. xxx
