Aggie has a retained eye cap which he had when i got him which has several shed on it.I have been putting the zoo med repti shedding aid on it once a month and aggie is due to shed soon...if this doesnt happen i need to take him back to the vets even tho he may be still blind in it..is there anything more i can do? |

I suppose if he was born with it he wint know any diffrent, ad combine that with living with you, im sure he will have a long happy life!!! |

doesnt affect him at all ..and like i said at the begining ...he is my baby and i love him the way he is
doesnt affect him at all ...i think he can see shadows in it ...but u have to becareful when u put ya hands in there cos it can scare him

Am glad you finally know what is going on with his eye and that he shed whole, but sorry that he is going to be blind in that eye. Surely that doesnt effect his quality of life much as he has some sight and relies on smell so much??? xxx |

Yes yes ...first time he shed whole but the eye is still the same ...Been to the vets he took a good look and tried taking some off but it turns out its not a retained eye cap its his actual eye ...looks as if its a birth defect ....vet said either way looks as if he is blind ...so i had 2 snakes in shed my corn and my rat snake which was pretty cool to watch |

personally i'd try the less invasive method of a damp hide like eeji suggested......... to try and get the snake to resolve the issue itself, or at least in preparation for you to try and remove it yourself |

use a rubber page turner (one for your finger) and rub it gently over the eye. it should come right off. |

Hey Tilly, 1st use wet sponge to swab eye/s to soften lens a little, but don't use glycerin/skin softener products. Then try to rub over the eye to dislodge an edge of retained cap.Now with a steady hand and maybe someone to hold snakey still, gently feel around edge of eye to get grip on retained cap. Gently ease of retained cap, making sure it's the cap you have and not the cornea! If you're not up for that, try moss box as above. put a wet box in for him, if he sits in there it may help the caps to come off. You'll need a small plastic box and fill it with dmap sphagnum moss |
