Hey all- my big 6 year old male has not eaten for the past 2 weeks, but he has not refused a feed for the past 3 years at least. He has been on 2 large mice every 7 days, as he became stressed during a house move and lost a lot of weight.
The mouse has been warmed up with a hairdryer, brained and the side split, but he wont even look at it. Any ideas why this is? I'm not too fussed (apart from the wasted mice  ) because hes a big lad and I've had him a fair while, but would like to know why the sudden change in behaviour?
I bought a new female about a month ago, and they are housed in the same room (seperate vivs obviously ) but he has eaten twice with her here. He is in a 4 foot viv with plenty of hides, fresh water every day, and good, stable temps. He has been a little more active than normal recently but thats about it. He is not due to shed either.

Heatseeker- The tone of your message (if there can be such a thing) comes across as a little agressive, so I will explain exactly what I mean.
My snake was being fed on 1 large and 1 medium mouse every 7 days before the house move, when he lost alot of weight, and so I upped him to 2 large mice to give him a bit of a "boost". It did exactly as planned and he has literally just been moved back to his usual portion of mouse. If I have misinterpreted the meaning of power-feeding then I'm terribly sorry... but this thread has nothing to do with the pros and cons of powerfeeding. Your way of keeping your snakes is likely to have differences to mine, but I have had no trouble with Casper since I bought him, until now.
This thread was started out of curiosity to find any possible reasons for the sudden loss of appetite, nothing more. Thanks for your comments, and I hope I have answered your two questions. |

correct me if im wrong sexybear, but did you say you was "power feeding" him. i thought that was bad for snakes. and question two- how is feeding every 7 days power feeding? i was feeding my corn snake every 7 days till a few months ago when i changed it to every 14 days as the mice he was on was a little large, but if its a reasonably small mouse i will still feed mine every 7 days but i thought power feeding was when you feed a snake like double the amount of food he needs each week |

Ooops! I lied... he had moved it and it was jammed under the corner of his hide... bloody snake... so- back to the drawing board! did notice yesterday morning but I havent been able to access the forum for 2 days (I thought my life was over) |

house move was ages ago and he is pretty much at the end of his power-feeding sesh. All weight has been put back on.
anyway, this thread is now a bit dead because after 3 hours, and repeated hairdrying sessions and much puzzled head scratching, he finally ate the damn thing... lol

i would say just let him settle but if he has lost alot of weight,maybe just a checkup at the vets.How long ago was the move and how much weight has he lost? |
