Hi Ive taken on a cornsnake that was unwanted a male. He is 1.2kg!!

He has scales lifting on hes belly you can feel the edges of them catch on your hand when being held. Hoping and because the edges at the bottom of them are slightly different gjtly lifted some have the corners missing so yoy can see the skin underneath?

Theres no redness or anything no mites etc
I am not sure what to do though.

Its the end of the scale thats the end closer to tail if that makes any sense. The bottom of the belly scales are lifting. They are sort of goijg an opaque white and feel like sharp plastic.

Would being overweight cause this or is this something else.

700 is decent weight for a corn. Will take a good while to get this down to a sensible weight.

It will take quite a while, but perseverance should get you results

Ok will sort it out. 1.2kg is alot for a corn snake.

It's more on body shape than weight as it can vary so much. Imagine taking a cross section of the snake.I assume at the moment it would be round. You're aiming for an arch/loaf of bread shape

Ok will do before I took him on he was being fed a small rat every week. Ill do a med mouse every 3 weeks? What weight is a rough guideline for a cornsnake? About 700g?
gmac Posted - 09/07/2017 : 19:47:14
Feed every 3 weeks or ao medium mouse.

My best gues is this corn is seriously overweight and causing issues with scales lifting. Big time diet required

Really not much to do but get the weight down considerably

You use photobucket to upload pics. There's a guide in the photo section of the forum. I'm not sure what it may be to be honest. Diet wise, I'd go for a medium mouse every 3 weeks and lots of exercise. I'll message my friend who knows more about health problems, tell them to come and give more advice

And also a couple of them are ripped so can see white skin under it.
Also how do you put snake on a diet as hes 1.2kg
Ben93 Posted - 09/07/2017 : 18:37:33
Imagine the bottom half of the rectangle scales on belly are slightly lifted amd scrape and make a paper ripping type noise occasionally. Its not all scales its just some.

I'm not sure what it would be, perhaps retained shed
