Posted - 14/07/2013 : 11:25:29 Hi people,
bit of a strange thing just happened, I had 2 pinkies left over from feeding all the juvenile corns I have, so rather than waste them I offered to my 5 year old corn (normally eats a weaner rat once every 2 weeks). He took them no problem, as he has done on previous occasions, gobbled up like a couple of chicken nuggets. That was yesterday at 3.30pm, this morning I went to clean him out and noticed he was squirming all over the place with his mouth as wide as could be, shortly after he regurged parts of the two pinkies he ate yesterday. Then he was back to normal. The others who ate the same batch are all fine and seem happy. Anybody have any ideas why this may happen. All is the same with his viv etc, no changes. |

Posted - 20/07/2013 : 10:23:09 Sorry I haven't replied before Lee. Two thoughts come to mind. Firstly maybe he just ate them too fast, although if that were the case I'd expect him to have thrown them up sooner. The second thing is the heat. Silvi regurged on Tuesday, after I'd fed her on Monday. I'm almost positive it was because her viv was too hot. Her cool end was getting above 26oC and its not a big viv so not much room for variance. She'd actually thrown up into her water bowl so I wonder if she got hot, came out for a drink and it was all too much so it all came back out .
I don't think it's anything to worry about, just monitor him and see what happens next time he's fed normally. Leave a 10 day gap from when he regurged to feeding him, so his stomach has a chance to recover.. And maybe don't give him 'treats' like that again .

Posted - 18/07/2013 : 13:03:42 I don't know what it was, he's had the odd leftover pinkie before without trouble. He seems fine although I will delay his next feed by another week to let him settle. |

Posted - 14/07/2013 : 21:28:57 Could be because he was used to rats? they, as i see it, are of a different taste and smell, and obviously different nutrient content - more fatty. Maybe after so many rats it disagreed with him?
Just my non experienced opinion though. |
