In Albi's viv he has a wooden log thing, made for snakes, as something for him to climb on and such, there is also a passage through it. When he was a little snakey he would be able to get through with no problem, you can see where this is going. Well last night while i was out he has tried to relive a favorite past time and has not got his ass stuck. He cant get free regardless of the thrashing. I cannot get him out either..... cannot cut the wood too thick and would risk injuring him further. My only solution is to starve him till he loses some weight..... any better ideas guys?

I agree with others, would definitely be better to get him out quickly if you can. Getting some olive oil and other lubricant in there might help him wriggle out on his own, but otherwise breaking apart the wood might be the only option.

Any chance you could upload some pics of him in this sticky situation so we can all get a look? There's always a chance someone might see a way of getting him out.

Best of luck anyway, what a horrible situation :(

Agreed - I wouldn't leave him like this as it may hurt him quite badly. I would try what Donnie suggested - try to weaken the wood where you can do so safely until it's weak enough to take apart without hurting the poor little snake.

If the olive oil doesn't work then you are going to have to destroy the log he is stuck in. There must be points where you can saw/cut and get really close but not touch the snake that will weaken the wood until you can eventually break it without to much risk to him. It may take a bit of time but it will have to be done.

Did you try using any olive oil or any water based lube to wriggle him out?

Poor pop. Hope he slips out soon

no, i spoke to a vet and they dont think there is anything they can do either, i really think im going to have to allow the wild to takes it course, he can reach water, i just hope he frees himself soon. and that log is going in the bin. I dont understand why he even tried, he should know better. ill keep everyone posted

Any news? I hope he is out by now, and if not needs to get to a vet quick.

Can't add any more - the lubrication seems a really good idea.
Any news - really hope this situation has been sorted

I wouldn't wet the wood , as wood swells in water, and could make the tunnel inside narrower! I'd try lubricating the snake with a bit of olive oil, but if he really can't get out, I'd go to the vets - I'd worry that if any part of the snake is really trapped, it could swell up ( bit like if you have a tight ring on a finger ), and make it even more difficult to get him out. The vets might be able to cut the log, but very carefully - they'd probably have some suitable tool to do it ....

You could have a go yourself - use a very fine toothed saw, cuting lengthwise. If any part of the snake it sticking out, I'd cover it with paper, or cloth, get another person to hold the snake away from the saw, and to hold the log. Cut slowly, and when you get very close, do it one stroke - then check, then another, check. You could try wedging something in, and then breaking the log open, when it's very nearly cut through...hope he's ok. Good luck and let us know.

Make sure he's got water he can reach...

Add a lube, something non offensive..

be gentle with a flat screw driver and probe for cracks you can exploit.. 2 together can function as a wedge.

just be aware of what the cost of the tool slipping could be and remember you have the rest of his life to get him free go slowly, relax.

Im really at a loss as to what to do about this one, i have nothing that will be able to break it open, without probably killing him.
cobweb251 Posted - 06/07/2013 : 23:29:15
not sure what wood it is but i don't think wetting it will make it softer. I moved house this morning as well so that wouldn't of cheered him up much either. Bad timing

Oh poop :o sorry im of no use in this situation but good luck!

Sorry to hear the bad news. Not sure starving is an option as it would take too long. I would try to break it open some how, I know you say it may injure further but I think the stress of being stuck may do as much damage. What wood is it? can it be soaked in warm (28c) water to soften?
