hello i posted the other week re Bill's regurges and refusal to eat, well my worrying has notched up to panic now ! He has been drinking and excreting gloop so tonight i got him out to clean him up and he felt flaccid and did not move that much , i ran my hands down his spine and can feel clicking and a lump (not visible) underneath up a bit from the cloaca. he seems to have suddenly lost weight though he does,nt look too triangular. i am taking him to the reptile rescue guy we got him from so he can check him over tomorrow night. but i am sat on my own feeling sick to my stomach, thinking i should have done more, and noticed more.
sorry for such a dpressing post but i am feeling very sorry for Bill and rather sorry for myself

That is wonderful of your son, to have a goodbye ceremony for Bill....and I'm sure it helps him come to terms with Bill's death and learn from it.

You definitely can't let that set-up stay empty and.....you can't not let a snake have the blessing of you and your son as its new owners. Sorry, had a total mind fog moment where I can't find the word I want , hope it makes sense.

Sorry to hear about your loss, these things happen and sometimes cant be prevented unfortunately. But hey you didnt give up on him so be proud! And of your son sounds like youve got a cracker there. RIP Bill

well we will definately be visiting the rescue and since we now have a brand new viv, a rub and a faun going spare watch this space ! At my sons' suggestion we had a candle ceremony involving burning over a candle some words to Bill and between us with j2os and in my case a glass of red ! we said a toast to our Bill !!!

I think even if you had got him to the vets there wouldn't be anything they could have done, it was such a quick downhill slide. I'm glad your lad is realistic about what's happened. It is life with animals....and even more so with exotic ones I think. It's so hard to tell when something is wrong and, if it is, how serious it is. And by the time we do realise its often too late.

What's the news on the visit to the rescue place and maybe getting another snake?

Your lad must be devastated, as are you. But I am glad that you will be able to offer another snake a wonderful home. It will be blessed to have owners such as you and your son .

Thank you he definately seemed to go downhill very quickly, unfortunately he died before i could get him looked at, i had also made an appointment at the vets which i had to cancel, we are very lucky to have an exotic pet specialist in Swindon but whether they are used to people blubbing at them about a dead snake when cancelling i am not sure !!! My lad was extremely upset but also quite accepting of the fact that this is what happens when you love animals !

So sorry to hear nusnakemum. Its never the easiest thing.
nusnakemum Posted - 19/06/2013 : 06:34:24
Well i am really very very sad to report Bill died. It must have been in the early hours and when i checked him at 5 a.m (could,nt sleep !) he had gone. Was so upset they sent me home from work to sort him out ha ha. So i have one extremely sad little lad ! However we also have the opportunity to get another rescue snake and foster some so a bit of time and we,ll have some new additions ! Thanks to everyone for your kind words - it really does help.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome.
Like Kellog said you have done your best and really mustn't feel bad and beat yourself up.
Keep us updated....

Oh no, all the best, I hope BIll is OK xx
nusnakemum Posted - 17/06/2013 : 22:48:41
thanks for your words, i am going to try to calm and sleep now !! Yes we got Bill as a rescue from Andy so he wanted to help and has hundreds of reptiles and has done for years so he knows his stuff. As for keepers nooooooo its too traumatic ha ha
Kellog Posted - 17/06/2013 : 22:42:47
What you have to accept is that you've done everything you can for Bill....whatever the outcome. I'm glad you've got someone you trust that you can take him to, who knows what he's talking about .

And foster snakes?? My guess is if you get any the 'fostering' may become permanent !!

thank you, thank you, the rescue guy i spoke to was brilliant and i am taking him tomorrow eve, and may come away with some foster snakes ha ha, but just feel bad - you think you are doing the right thing then suddenly you feel like you got it all wrong. But Andy definately knows what he is talking about so hopefully will get Bill on the mend - but cant help worrying i left it too late, but am going to try and sleep and think positively xx
Kellog Posted - 17/06/2013 : 22:34:02
I'm so sorry Nicky, it must be horrible for you. But you must stop beating yourself up about it. You've done everything anyone else would have, asking for help when he wasn't eating and trying to sort out why he was regurging. My guess is that him getting worse happened quite quickly....and you've responded as soon as you noticed. There isn't anything else you can do and I know I wouldn't have done anything differently.
