Posted - 10/06/2013 : 23:15:59 I got my Caramel female off a lad who had her and a male. When I collected her the owner said that he hadn't separated them soon enough and he thought the female had an egg, she had a slight bulge. He also said that she had stopped eating 6 weeks earlier so didn't think she was in good enough condition to produce a decent egg. Well I've had her 2 1/2 months now and she is still refusing to eat, she doesn't look any thinner to me, she drinks regularly, spends most of the time in her hide but does come out now and then, she has pooped 3 times and shed twice. I pretty much leave her alone and don't handle her. There is a damp moss hide for her to lay in when she's ready and the temps are all ok. Last shed was 17 days ago. Do I need to take her to the vet? Is there something wrong? Any advice would be appreciated. |

Posted - 26/06/2013 : 09:30:31 I'm sorry this reply is so late Lee....and I am so sorry to hear that you had to put her to sleep. You know it was the right and only thing to do, she truly was past saving by the sounds of it.
Don't you dare beat yourself up about it ! You did everything you could once you were aware that there was a problem, a lot more than some owners would. She was truly blessed to have you as her owner for those last months of her life. Don't forget that.

Posted - 24/06/2013 : 11:33:35 Oh Lee I'm so sorry to hear that you lost her but take comfort from the fact that you did everything you possibly could for her but most of all you gave her the loving care and attention she had clearly missed out on with her previous owner. |

Posted - 24/06/2013 : 10:45:20 Very sorry to hear that Lee, such a shame that it didn't work out but you should be congratulated on doing all that could be done for her |

Posted - 24/06/2013 : 10:25:50 Hi all, unfortunately it didn't go well at the vets, because of her rapid weight loss over the last week or so, poor condition and the unlikelihood of her coming through the operation it was decided the best option was the put her to sleep. Thank you all for the comments and advice. RIP little girl. |

Posted - 22/06/2013 : 21:56:32 I'm sorry she's regurged but not too surprised. At least they have some idea what's wrong and will hopefully have a plan of campaign when you go on Monday. Has the vet suggested you put some Reptoboost in her water to help her?

Posted - 22/06/2013 : 11:26:17 thanks lotabob, she is being left in piece and I change her water each day. She has actually been passing waste ok, which I find strange as she hasn't eaten for so long, don't know where it's coming from. |

Posted - 22/06/2013 : 10:38:23 Aww poor snake. I probably would avoid feeding just in case this is an impaction and she is unable to pass waste properly. Such an unfortunate situation you've inherited but its lovely to see someone doing all they can to remedy the problem. She does appear to be losing a lot of weight poor thing. Lets hope the diagnosis comes through soon and in the mean time i would just leave her quiet and just make sure she's a constant supply of fresh water.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you and the snake for Monday. |

Posted - 22/06/2013 : 10:27:18 Well I spoke too soon, after typing the above post I went and checked on her only to find she had regurgitated the fuzzie, must have been in the last 1/2 hour. :( |

Posted - 22/06/2013 : 10:20:57 Just an update, she has lost another 23g this week, now at 315g, but I did manage to get her to eat a fuzzie yesterday, it took her a long time though and two attempts. That's the first thing she has eaten since 10/02. Results from the vet is it's most likely a fecalith or urolith in the distal 20% or so of the snake, especially if the snake has not been eating well(concentrates uric acid), but cannot rule out kidneys. They would want to perform blood work and a barium series to confirm. She's back to see them on Monday morning for the final decision on what to do. |

Posted - 19/06/2013 : 09:04:43 It's not surprising she had a bad shed Lee considering all the stress she's been under with going to the vets and having the x-rays done, as well as there being something wrong with her. I'm glad you were able to help her get rid of the retained shed.
She will be very quiet, she must be exhausted. I do hope you hear from the vet soon.

Posted - 17/06/2013 : 19:35:03 No news yet, still waiting for a diagnosis. She has had a terrible shed the last 2 days, flaking and bits everywhere and she's been very restless. I did manage to give her a quick soak in a bowl of warm water yesterday and this morning she had shed what was left. She's been very quiet today. |
