Posted - 12/01/2013 : 13:32:52 Hi As you know I bought a corn/rat snake a couple of weeks ago, he is 3 years old but he hasn't eaten for the last two weeks and seems to have lost 150 grams, do I need to do anything special to get him to eat ?

Posted - 20/01/2013 : 19:51:16 Definitely sounding like something is wrong - possibly internal parasites? Did you actually take him to a rep specialist or just a normal vet? As Isoldael said, they will need to send off a sample to test for parasites.
You really need to get him in a different room to the other snakes asap in case it is something contagious - all new snakes should be quarantined for at least 3-6 months for exactly this reason.
I hope you get him sorted out soon, it must be very worrying for you :( |

Posted - 12/01/2013 : 15:07:44 that much weight loss in a couple of weeks is extreme, also going twice a day is also extreme. Trip to the vets rather urgently i suggest to see whats going on inside this beast |

Posted - 12/01/2013 : 14:26:02 What is his poo like? Twice a day is unusually often for most snakes. |

Posted - 12/01/2013 : 14:10:15 Did think something was strange as when I got him he was pooing twice a day which I thought was uncommon for corns even tho he was a corn/rat hybrid |

Posted - 12/01/2013 : 13:55:00 Are you sure he's lost 150g? If so, I would be a bit concerned.
Losing 150g in two weeks is a lot. A snake wouldn't lose that much just from not eating for 2 weeks, there must be some undelying issues as a 3 year old corn could go for months without eating without losing that much weight. |
