Posted - 23/11/2012 : 12:02:23 Hi all, I'm a little worried about my snake Phoebe! She weighs 37g and I fed her a mouse weighing 7g on monday. It was probably the biggest she's had so far but it wasn't too big! Anyway so far she's pooed like clockwork at some stage on the secod day after feeding, but she still hasn't this time. She had a small mouse-looking lump on wednesday but that seems to have gone now. In the right light I can see a big dark area a little above her vent but then theres a gap and another smaller dark area right next to it. This feels hard to the touch and I'm worried it's blocked somehow? I tried giving her a bath earlier but no luck yet! What should I do? |

Posted - 02/12/2012 : 16:40:52 thanks for the replies. I've tried more baths now and she did go, but she still weighs 7g more than she should, which is a whole mouse, and I can actually see theres more to come. She's just not going, and I'm due to feed again today but I'm reluctant to feed her if she's just going to be blocked up the whole time! What could be causing it? |

Posted - 30/11/2012 : 18:03:47 I'd leave her another day or two, and if she still hasn't gone, try giving her a luke warm bath. I had to do this once with Bazil, when she was a hatchie... it worked. Just make sure the water's not too warm, only about 28 - 29 C. Make it very shallow ( maybe in a plastic box ), support her to start with, and watch her all the time. Leave her in long enough - Baz pooed after about 5 mins in the water. She didn't like it , though.

Posted - 28/11/2012 : 17:23:06 It's been 2 days now since I fed again and still no sign! I know she may well go soon but she hasnt yet and is actually bulging now above the vent?! She also weighs 49g now instead of her empty 37! Any ideas? Am I gonna end up having to go to the vets? :( |

Posted - 25/11/2012 : 13:58:53 I would still feed as normal. Some snakes don't poo like clockwork, Apollo is one of them, he only goes every 3rd of 4th feed which can be nasty when he does make a huge mess haha. |

Posted - 25/11/2012 : 12:09:18 ok so she has now done a little poo but she still weighs 4g heavier than normal and I can still see dark inside so she obviously needs to go. Do I feed as normal tomorrow if she hasnt gone? |

Posted - 23/11/2012 : 12:49:52 Try not to worry...easier said than done I know. Don't forget you gave her a larger meal than she's used to so it will take longer to digest. You may find that when you have her out the exercise she gets slithering about while being handled will move things along, be prepared! I'd still feed her as normal. Some mice have more nutrients than others so leave very little waste, she may not need to 'go' until she's had more food. Temperature wise, my stats are set at 28 for all my corns.

Posted - 23/11/2012 : 12:14:56 ok thanks, I'll try not to worry then! When should I be concerned? And should I feed her again on monday if she hasn't been? She's in a viv with the mat inside. hmm ok, maybe I should turn it down slightly then! |

Posted - 23/11/2012 : 12:07:55 Is she in a viv with the mat in the viv or is she in a RUB with the mat underneath? 31c is a touch on the warm side for a corn, 28c is more ideal. |

Posted - 23/11/2012 : 12:06:50 Just leave her be she'll poop eventually! If she's still not gone by the weekend then there's no harm in giving her another luke-warm bath, mine tend to unleash torrents of poo when I give them a bath, it's lovely. |

Posted - 23/11/2012 : 12:06:43 oh I forgot to mention - my room is fairly cold, but her heatmat is set to 31c and she seems happy with that, has never refused a feed or anything and feels warm to the touch when I pick her up. |
