Posted - 20/09/2012 : 08:05:44 Hey, I'm just wanting to know how do snakes shed with stitches? It's a long story buy my Corn wasn't feedding so my local reptile shop tried her on live, it bit her she's got stitches now she's on shed. This happned last Saturday orSunday I think. Will she just shed through the stitches like normal? Or will she have a trouble with the sitiches? I'm a bit of a newbie with snakes so if she does have trouble what can I do to help?
Thanks in advanced |

Posted - 20/09/2012 : 12:22:17 The damp moss is the sort of hide I use if necessary. You can also move the water dish to the warm side of her viv to add more humidity to the viv. If the stiches come out with the shed I really wouldn't worry unless the wound starts to gape open or bleed again. Don't forget it will take a few days from you noticing her going blue to the actual shed and by then the wound will probably have healed enough. I'd miss a couple of feeds if she were mine, just to give the whole area time to internally repair, as well as externally, before stretching to feed. Even then I'd probably feed mice a couple of sizes down for the next couple of feeds. |

Posted - 20/09/2012 : 10:26:32 I believe there is a guide in the keeping section on how to make a moist hide if you look there. |

Posted - 20/09/2012 : 10:20:06 Most people use moss which you can get from pet shops or garden centres. Soak it for a couple of minutes and the squeeze the hell out of it so its damp but leaves no drips. Pop it in her warm hide or add an extra hide and leave her too it, you can re moisten as need. X |

Posted - 20/09/2012 : 09:43:46 Oh okay cheers, that's good to know actually. She was about due a shed maybe that injury just helped her along a bit, I have a few more questions if her stitches DO come out while she's shedding what on earth do I do? And how do I actually make her hide moist? Or do I have to buy a specific moist hide if you know what I mean? |

Posted - 20/09/2012 : 09:00:08 I agree with Georgina. A moist hide will help a lot. Snakes will shed after wounds of some kind..it's a bit like humans when a scab falls off. It's just getting rid of the old stuff and a nice new, healed snake should magically appear !! |

Moist hide is a good idea, anything to ease the shedding process. |

Posted - 20/09/2012 : 08:15:45 She is shedding because of the stitches. I think sometimes they are fine, but I have heard of he stitches coming out with the shed. I personally would put a damp hide in, to give her as much help as poss. And just leave her to it. Keep an eye. I hope all goes well x |
