I think i've just posted this in the wrong place!!

I just wanted some advice, our 9 month old corn snake's tail is black on the tip. Only about 2mm and it seems dry. She had a shed on Sunday but it allcome off in one go. Is this related? Does anyone have any advice. She seems absolutely fine, full of energy as normal.

Thanks, Louise.

Dont worry i made the same mistake with Rubi when she was smaller..i could of sworn was all there but unfortunatly noticed to late and despite trying to get she dof tail was already dead it came of with the next shed. Rubis absoloutly fine has healed well and she doesnt seem to notice.

Just keep an eye on her tail and make sure the black doesn't spread. It most likely won't, but better to be safe than sorry ^^

I'm sure she'll be fine, good luck with it :)

The tips are very hard to see if they haven't come off so don't feel bad. Plenty of people miss it. Without seeing it its hard to say how bad it is, but if its gone black then its most likely dead anyway. Snake won't feel it. It may eventually just drop off.

Really? That's so strange, we're sure the others were complete. I've just checked them, looks like you could be right. The very tips aren't there! We thought we were being so careful. How bad do I feel now. Will she be ok? Thanks so much for your help, you've been really helpful.

This won't of happened just like that. It normally takes a build of missed tips to do it.

I've tried running my nail along and couldn't really feel a ridge. I read in one of my books to try a spray of tepid water and a drop of mineral oil (petroleum jelly). I think maybe we've left it a bit late and i'm worried she's going to lose the tip of her tail. Such a shame but we won't make that mistake again. She's shed twice prior to Sunday and never had a problem, I feel really bad, bless her.

Gently run a nail along the tail (from head-side to tail-side). If there is still skin there, you will likely feel a little ridge where the retained skin starts.

Is there anything I can do to check? What can I do to help?

Sounds like there's possible retained shed on it. Sometimes its really hard to see with youngsters that it has all come off.
