all,

I noticed when feeding my baby the other day it looked like after his last shed that the tail tip was still attached. I didn't actually notice it was still on!

Anyway, as when I noticed the tail tip still on, it was when I was feeding him so I've had to leave it a few days.

I've ran some wet kitchen roll and it has all come off but here comes my question;

When you look right at the tip of your snakes tail, is there a tiny tiny bit on the very end that is see through? It seems to be a part of a bigger scale that is tiny, but obviously big compared to his surrounding scales. could that be some final shed, or is that his actual tail??

Its a slit in the roof of their mouth, they put their glottis in it to breathe through their nostrils which dont have an independent airway (birds also have one but that's neither here nor there). HAHA Glottis, tubular thing on the bottom of their mouth that they breathe through. Told you, lots to learn. If you were to really get into their anatomy its fascinating how things have evolved.

The Choana is the passageway from the back of one side of the nose to the throat haha. I had to google it.

WTF is a coanal slit??????
lotabob Posted - 16/05/2012 : 21:56:18
There is so so so much to learn about snakes, like at what end is the coanal slit? I bet its not the end you think, lol.
viraleye Posted - 16/05/2012 : 21:15:33
its just because i have never actually seen it before

i do feel stupid tho
lotabob Posted - 16/05/2012 : 21:09:12
Don't feel stupid if you dont know its not worth ignoring it, the only stupid question is the one not asked (or whatever that saying is).

My Royal's tail has a single sharp scale at the end of his tail, it looks and feels like a claw but its just the way the scales are configured at that end.

Nothing stupid about being concerned for your snake
viraleye Posted - 16/05/2012 : 21:02:45
i just didnt know if it was still part of his shed or actually his tail.

i feel very stupid now :-(

My normals and enry tail tips are black, but slightly see through as you said at the very tip. As long as you are sure nothing is on the tip then its fine :D
viraleye Posted - 16/05/2012 : 20:19:54
I did think it was normal - I've never noticed it before so after sorting out his tip i didn't actually know if it was normal or not.
Georgina Posted - 16/05/2012 : 20:10:50
it looks fine, being an amel it, its probs just a light coloured scale xx
viraleye Posted - 16/05/2012 : 20:06:51
It doesn't feel as if it should not be there.

I think its completely normal, but i do worry about the little man
Georgina Posted - 16/05/2012 : 20:02:00
does it feel different to the rest of him?
viraleye Posted - 16/05/2012 : 20:00:39
here is a couple if pictures(not very good);

lotabob Posted - 16/05/2012 : 19:58:47
It would be dependant on the skin colour as to how it would look but there is a scale on the tip of the tail.
viraleye Posted - 16/05/2012 : 19:19:59
i can try, but as it is so minute i doubt it'll come out very well
Georgina Posted - 16/05/2012 : 19:18:31
