Hey all,

Couple of quick questions ....

Red's not eaten for a three weeks now, refusing a feed earlier on today.

She's been zoooooooooming around her vivarium a lot and is very active, she's a nosey snake as it is but it's like she's hyper. She also looks a little constipated. She had quite a big bulge around her bum area last week, we gave her a swim which she seriously hated, but a day later she did two really small droppings.

She still however has a smallish bulge there and we couldn't get her to soak earlier. I got a pic of it i'll post it as soon as i can.
She hasn't pooed at all since her last small ones.

Anyone got any tips on how to help a constipated snake?

Also ....

Last week, she dropped quite a large mound of white stuff .... and after hearing my mate on about hers dropping er, sperm plugs is it? I'm thinking our pretty girl might be a pretty boy .... lol. (We never had her probed or anything, got her as an adult we just chose female as we already had a male snake).

I'm wondering if this is the reason for the intense viv searching? lol.

She was ditched with a garden centre when we got her.

No idea her age, they estimated 3. We had her in July and she's shed twice with us now and grown a good couple of inches in that space of time. She's now just over 4 and a half foot long.

She wasn't in with any others when we got her, but her previous history is unknown other than she was underweight and unwanted.

No idea of her gender, we just chose female as we already had a male snake. If that makes sense lol.

How old is she?

Is she a she?

How long have you had her?

Was she cohabited before you got her?

We'll keep bathing her then

Thank you everyone!

If the snake was gonna leave you a nice little sperm present, you would be in no doubt, normally, normally mind, they evert both hemepenes and go crazy. Its urates, pee, it will always be the same answer. Driving with the snake does work, simply through the vibrations, the bathing does the same thing, but different method, the warm water relaxes the muscles.

If you try and bathe a snake without the lid on the tub, then you are gonna be playing catch the snake every time, not so bad with a little corn, i have had to do it with a 10ft boa, thats fun!!!
Personally, if i was you, i wouldnt massage, you could do some damage.
If you want to go to the vet, by all means, they will most likely just flush the cloaca, kind of like a much more expensive version of what you are already doing.

I feel so mean putting the lid on! lol. But we'll try.

Will let you know how she/he gets on

I also have read and know of success stories that a drive does help stimulate them when eating too. Was about to try it with one of our hogs.

Also .... if she is a boy and she/he's on the prowl for a girly friend, how long does that normally last?

OOOHHH ...

She's just done a a sort of ... perfectly round puddle of white/yellow gloupy stuff. Sperm or wee? lol.

If you drive, try popping her in a box and take her out in the car.

I can't remember if it stimulates feeding or pooping, but if they're both problems it might be worth it.

As for the very active bit, she may very well be a boy. My big male is very active as it's that time of the year when he wants to find a mate, and I'm sure that also dulls their appetites.....

Pop her in a critter carrier type thing with a lid with the water in, leave her to it lol! Also, May just be a weirdo Snow, but massaging his backend sometimes helps him go xD

We'll persist

She's a big gentle girl, she got angry at the water instead of us lol.

I'd put the none feeding down to a mixture of the time of year and the constipation. As above, bathing is the best, the feeling of water must help their bowels. She may dislike it, but persist and hopefully it will get things moving.

Urrrrgh ... she's done that too. At least i'm pretty sure she has back in in the summer, I might have to get a pic if she does it again .... I thought it was weird runny poo lol.
I don't mind if she's a boy, i'm not planning on breeding, but it just looked a bit what I imagined snakey sperm to look like lol.

Yeah the last bath she had was pretty deep she was swimming well and kept her head out, she was a bugger to keep in the bath though,so we tried her in a huge RUB and she loathed it. Literally leapt out and coiled round my other halfs arm and was hissing and staring at the water.

How long would you reckon to leave it if she hasn't pooed before going to the vet?

The white stuff is Urates, she had a pee! Sperm plugs are kinda yellowy white crusty bits, truely delightful stuff!

As far as the impaction goes, bathing is the best bet, nice warm water, about 4 or 5 inches deep, and leave her to it for about half hour to an hour.
Am sure someone will come along and say that you should only bathe with water half the depth of the snake, seriously dont worry about it, they are fine, been bathing in full tubs for many years and never had even the slightest issue!!
