Hi everyone, ive just put Tobasco back into his viv and has found these teeny weeny bugs crawling round some of his stuff. After a close look i didnt find very many in there. There is nothing on him, so now i need your opinion. Do i leave the in there and keep a close or do i straight away, clean out his viv.

Thanks. x

Believe it or not but springtails are actually sold to keep soil terrariums with with very high humidity clear of mould etc, be thankful you got yours for free. Its probably too dry in a normal corn snake setup though to keep them alive for long, they will congregate around the water bowl.

You are welcome Meggi. Have fun and don't be shy asking about anything that you are unsure of.

Yes, they are springtails and nothing to get worried about. (Like I was when when I came across them.)

hi everyone, they look exactly like the picture x does this mean they are springtails? Thanks x
lotabob Posted - 17/09/2011 : 13:19:14
If they are white and hang around the water bowl then its most likely Springtails. Totally harmless and a herps friend, they eat muck, mould and fungi and keep stuff clean. You can get rid of them but if there are only a few I wouldn't waste too much energy getting rid of them. Only ones to worry about are black, mites are the pain in everyones ass, there is lots of info already on here about them including pictures just search mites.

Compare with the pic in this post. Not the best photo but as you said, they are tiny.
