while doing research on what snake we would like to join our family we came across 14 baby corns that were not being looked after very well and being the kind of people we are we bought them because I couldnt leave them
We havent got much info on them only that they hatched 9,10,11 june and they have had 4 feeds of mice tails and have shed twice
We worked all throu the night to build them a heated unit Alan has done a great DIY job Im very pround of him
I have weighed them the best I could and they weigh from 27g-31g does this sound about right?
They seem very small for there ages to me
We have left them alone for a few days to settle in just changing the water daily
They were last fed on sunday and we collected them on wednesday,but only one of the babies has pooed
They are due to be fed again on Saturday
I am quite nervouse about the feed because I know I will feel bad if they dont feed.I really want them to thrive and do well so we can find nice new homes for some of them
talk about being thrown in at the deep end with your first snake lol
If any of you knowlagable have any advise that would be great

You've been had my friend, 14 snakes someone couldn't shift or be bothered to feed and house. Can I ask how much you paid and how you are housing them? If they were a bargain you may be able to shift them on at a profit but its unlikely. |

I'm with the others your very brave. My concern would also be that now you have taken the 14 babies of this 'breeder' will he just go and breed again? |

I echo the above concerns about the honesty of the people you have got them from. I cannot see how it would be possible for them to have reached the weight that they have by only having 4 feeds of mouse tails.
You sure do believe in jumping in at the deep end. While it's not something I would have done, having very limited experience, I wish you loads of luck with all the little ones. I had a hatchling last year that didn't eat properly, had a couple of regurges etc. Unfortunately it died and the stress and worry of that time will always stay with me. Credit to you for the hard work put into getting them set-up. The only advise I can give is make sure their set-ups are spot on, leave them alone for a week to settle in, just change their water every couple of days. When you feed them, don't worry about dangling it or messing about in any way. Just drop it into their tubs and leave them to it. Then you can see which ones will feed and which wont. Let us know how you get on |

I no its not ideal to take on problem snakes to start with but trust me they have got a better chance with us then where they were,They didnt even have any heat,we couldnt have left them
we are going to try them with pinkies our local pet shop sorted out the smallest for us, as I believe there is not much goodness in mouse tails.
We have done so much research but all the advise is conflicting and very confusing
I no it,s different but we are used to problem birds spent hours and hours hand feeding them back to health and we have got 3 beareded dragons 2 of which have had special care and are now fit and well and ready to be rehomed

My snake also hatched in June and has only just hit 20g's and has been fed on Pinkies...
As gmac says deffo some porkies told somewhere. |

those snakes were not born 9-11 june and have not been fed on mouse tails. 27-31g is way to heavy for hatchlings a few months old only being fed mouse tails. Also snakes wont grow on mouse tails very quickly so to shed twice in that time is very very unusual. In all honesty I think someone has been telling you porkies.
If they are on mouse tails as you have been told how are you planning to feed the snakes, pinkies or are you going to try mouse tails, as mouse tails normally take a bit of assisting?
Edit: to give you a comparison we had hatchies late May weighing 8-9g the ones that fed every week on pinkies were still not at 20g mark. Also would normally always suggest to new keepers not taking in problem snakes especially not 14 problem snakes as it is better getting experience with healthy snakes first as it can be very stressful not just to the snake but to the owner who has no experience with this kind of thing. |
