Posted - 20/08/2011 : 03:00:17 Hi ive had my faunarium for about 2 months with the snake in for 2 months i went on holiday for two weeks and when i got home the thermometer which has been placed on the back of the glass said it was 20 degrees in there?!?!? The heatmat seems to be working normally with the ministat i use and i wondered what the hell could it be? Ive got an idea that i had a small window open in my room and it was pretty chilly in there when i got home and i know that heat matts are specially designed to only heat surfaces that it comes into contact with and doesent heat up the air, so could it be my cold rooms thats making his faun chilly he seems too be active as normall and he took his food and gobbled it down happily, any suggestions???? |

Posted - 22/08/2011 : 15:52:12 Digital thermometers don't take up much room - all you need to put in the faun is the probe and place it on the mat. You should probably get one as soon as possible to check your thermostat's at the right temperature - I find mine is set to 27 and can still get up to nearly 30 according to my probe - otherwise you might end up having your warm end too hot for your snake and a possibility of burns. |

Posted - 20/08/2011 : 21:45:07 Heat mats only heat on contact so don't affect the air temperature. You need to get a digital thermometer and place it either directly on top of the heat mat or in the tub under the substrate directly over the mat. Once you do this you can adjust the thermostat using the reading from the digital thermometer. |

Posted - 20/08/2011 : 18:51:28 simmy i have a thermometer midheight of the faunarium, it is getting only air temp, and kdlang its a exoterra dial reading thermometer and yes i had someone checking him and changing water almost everyday! the temp has risen to 22c but on my ministat its set to 30 is that too hight but ive read up on them and the thermometer on the ministat isnt very acurate and is 20 degrees warm enough for the air temp in the middle of the tank?? |

Posted - 20/08/2011 : 14:18:58 What kind of thermometer is it? You really need to have a digital thermometer with the probe resting on the bottom of the faun above the heatmat.
Did you have someone going in to check on the snake and change water while you were away? |

Posted - 20/08/2011 : 07:35:27 The cool end if my faun is like that. Do you have a thermometer in top of where you heat mat is? Mine reads between 27.5 and 29.5. Your thermometer sounds like only getting the air temp not the mat temp?? |
