Hi does anybody have any ideas what could be wrong with my new snake Austin,I've only had him 3 weeks and he hasn't eaten yet so I have left him alone since last thursday ( first attempt with food ) but after he didn't eat again last night I took him out to check him over and he now looks like this...

Pictues aren't great I know but best I can do with a phone, could he of dislocated his jaw tryig to eat? we are on the way to the shop we bought him from as they said they'd have a look and see if there's anything they could do but I would appreciate any opinions/advice you guys have

I saw him do it so hopefully will be able to keep a close eye on it and they told me to just pop him in again if there's anymore trouble so that's good.

You couldn't have known that it had something stuck in its mouth, though I would think its more likely to have been substrate than food as they eat their food whole unless it was a Heather Mills-mouse. It is quite common too for people to not know how to safely open a snakes mouth, its not something you need to do often but is something to geek up on, did you see how the guy at the shop did it because you will need to give it a few days and check the mouth, make sure its healing.

It was a piece of food according to the guy who sorted him out and it had caused a infection, lots of swelling as u can see from the first pic with lots of goo coming out.
I feel bad now though poor little guy I thought I was doing the best thing not disturbing him :(

Did it cause an absess then or was it just stuck? I imagine it wasnt very pleasant if it had been stuck in there for 3 weeks

I had snake that didn't eat for 2 or more months turned out it had mites and the mites were causing it uncomfort so it couldn't/wouldn't eat.
