my partner snake sid ate a small mouse while getting ready to shred because the mouse was put in boiling hot water the guts came out of th mouse and pieces of wood got stuck on the mouse... sid was blue eyed and couldnt see t5his he ate them and you could see them in his body but we noticed as he had his mouth open funny, the vet said he would past them, i got advice from vet in horsham but sid didnt see the vet.. he has not passed any stools (Poo) since and this was tuesday the 24th june any advice please help as scared they wont pass thgrough and he could die as sid wont be able to digest them he has eaten 1 mouse since but seems to be off his food alittle bit. hes about 14 months and 5ft and a half but he seems active, please please help kerrypx |

Preventative wise, feed in a tub outside, or at the very least put kicthen towel down. And don't but the mouse in boiling water xD |

You could also try changing the substrate to Aspen, just in case he ingests something foreign again. |

we use orchid bark and beech chip. he is pooing better thanks for all advice and sid climbed in a sofa bed hour later managed to get him untangled so he is full of life and very subborn |

What wood/substrate do you use? Wood chip is unlikely to be broken down, orchid bark and aspen is softer and possibly could partially break down enough to pass through. It takes slightly over a week from going in to coming out so I'd say if its eating and pooping then its likely to be OK. Take it as a warning sign though and cover the substrate or feed in a separate tub and save yourself the worry. |

no lumps or bumps that we can see and he did pass a stool (poo) last night although werent very big nd it was not the wood but taking this as good sign???? we do put him in the bath ocassionally any other advice please help as need as much advice as possible on this subject thanks kerrypx |

if they were big enough you could see them in his body id be bit concerned, the problem with ingested wood is its very fibrous and generally cant be broken down by the stomach acids more so larger bits an if they get stuck in digestive track it will then cause following meals to not pass through the system properly, are they any unusual lumps on bulges in the snakes body u can see that might indicate a blockage?? |
