Twilight's just had his first shed following his injury.
( see http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17166)
He's never had a problem shed before but this one was terrible - came off in loads of tiny bits all over the viv and loads of bits left on him. I've just done the damp towel thing which took a long time but I think I've finally got everything off apart from the bit on top of his head where he damaged it initially. There's a big chunk sticking up which is much deeper and thicker than the skin which came off the rest of his body. It seems to be attached to the damaged area whichis still underlying the half attached shed. I've been as firm with it as I think I can be but I can't get it off. What else can I do?

Just updating the update - Twilight's just shed again and this time it was all clean and the thick scabs came off the top of his head. It took two months from the initial injury and he was way grumpier than usual whilst in blue. I put his water bowl on the heat mat for a couple of days to raise the humidity a bit - don't know if it made the difference but anyhow he's done now. He missed a feed as I didn't want to mess him around whilst in blue and he must have been really hungry as he tagged me whilst waiting for the mouse. Never done that before but he realised his mistake and let go straight away (didn't chew on me for 10 minutes like Saracen has done in the past). He now looks shiny and happy. Thanks for all the advice guys.

you might want to try just leaving it, having some ratained usually throws them straight back into shed, just keep it moist and wait for the next shed

Have you tried applying a sponge to his head for a bit? easier to dampen the area as he can't avoid it as easily, and nice and soft too! :)

replace all the usual hides with damp ones (so he has to use them) then after 2-3 days give him a bath then try the damp cloth/towel again

it'll be like a scab and will come off when its ready, has his eye caps and tail come off ok, i'm sure he'll rub the top off in his own time
