My corn had shed just before I got him. Just 17 days later I noticed that he was very quiet and didn't want to come out to play. 9 days later he shed (a bad shed but we helped him get all the retained shed off). It has now been 17 days since he completed his last shedding cycle and he is being very quiet again and doen't want to come out. This isn't like him at all (apart from last time he shed) as he normaly 'asks' to come out at least 3 times a day. I could be wrong but its just like last time and he seems as is he is going into shed again. If he does shed again should I be worried that he is shedding so often? His previous owner said that he didn't shed that often when he was with her. note: he is 15 months old, weighs 353g and is 3.5' long if that is relevent. |

is possible that is the reason for the quick shedding cycles, corns will try to fix themselves and that is one way they do it. |

I haven't seen any mites but Ammy did have a small mark (possibly a burn from the heat lamp in his old home) on his head when I got him. This has virtually dissapeared since his last shed but this could be the reason. |

are there any scratches on your corn, also is there any sign of mites. Its only a few reasons why they may shed more often. |

reading on here, if females are gravid they shed prior to laying and even if they haven't been mated they can still lay infertile eggs |

That I am not sure of. My friend always refered to the snake as a him so I did too. I don't think that she ever had him properly sexed. Are females bigger/faster growing than males? |

I just got in touch with Ammy's previous owner and he hatched on 25 feb 2010 making him 16 months today so I was only one month wrong. |

Me and my husband were having that discusion last night. Thats what the previous owners told me, she had him from a hatchling but I think that I will ask her again to make sure I heard her correctly. I have been trying to find out about snake weight/length to age ratios but I haven't found out much as corns can vary so much. I have read posts on this and other forums that say that their 18 month olds are like 70g and less which got me thinking cause as far as I can tell he isn't over weight, he is a perfect 'loaf of bread' shape. If he is older than I thought I am even more worried about his shedding frequency as they shed less often the older they get! He is still quiet today, he normaly wants to come out to play at 11:00 but when I opened his door he wasn't interested today again. I can't tell if he is looking blue yet as he is tucked away in his warm hide but it does seem to me like he is going into shed. |
