Hi there my anery corn snake eats her two pinkies fine but I want her to constrict her prey not just be lazy and strike then eat. Is there any way to make her constrict ? |

Spot on. they dont NEED to constrict a pinky, its not gonna hurt them.
once something can fight back or run away, thats when they start getting more excited about it. |

Kings are similar, their care is very similar too but they can be feisty, they will eat just about anything, well they will try. Their feeding response is notoriously strong. I cant wait to get a Mexican Black King snake.
It is not true. They will grow regardless. Its your job to match their enclosure to their size. |

How much is a king snake then and how long do they live for ? Are they like corn snakes ? Need a small viv while their young and something else is it true your corn willmonly grow to the size of the viv ? |

lol was feeding day today and he did another strike but that was it.
He then decided to eat it bum first, no coiling or constricting! I will have to make him watch Marv next time and hope he gets the idea! |

Marvolo is fantastic, he strikes from far away and coils round his mouse and even the way he eats it is more exciting to watch.
im as bad as you louise.......i do all the scent trail thing and she just hisses at it lol

Nimbus is so boring to feed. He did a strike last week and that was cool but he usually just sniffs the mouse, then slowly eats it. I warm it, wobble it, leave a scent trail but no, he's just happy to be boring!
Marvolo is fantastic, he strikes from far away and coils round his mouse and even the way he eats it is more exciting to watch. |

my corn does a fantastic strike and a good ol hiss lol, i suppose with time she will constrict
my king on the other hand is a right little squeezer lol, rolls around with it like a mad thing, squeezing the life out of it to make sure its dead lol
then decides its bum first not head first to eat lol |

try making a scent trail with the prey so the snake has to hunt it down then (using tongs) slowley jiggle it and when hits give it a little shake to mimic live prey it would probably help if the prey was warm too |

Some captive snakes will go through life never constricting, because when fed on frozen thawed prey they know they don't need to.
As said the important bit is that they are actually eating... |

TIME.
My 6 month old anery has only just started constricting, still not struck though. I feed with tongs put the mouse down, wait until Spot bites down on the mouse, just nip a loose foot or tail (of the mouse, not the snake) and give it a tiny shake, usually sets him off into a constrict, then watch him twist the mouse like the mother of all chinese burns.
Be assured though its not a feeding issue, the important bit is that they eat, not the show they put on doing it, no matter how awesome it is  |
