Posted - 10/01/2011 : 21:12:52 hi i was about to buy a pair of corn snakes but the lady has just contacted me and said the female is bleeding from vent 2 weeks after she mated them, is this normal |

That could make for a potentially very very expensive snake, and not guaranteed to live. Not only that but it could only be the beginning of some serious problems.
If i was you, as lovely as it probably was, avoid it. A lot of vets see reptiles as 2 things, 1st, a bit of a challenge. 2nd, a nice little earner.
they will charge you both your arms and both your legs for any decent treatment, and if surgery is involved, it can stretch to 100's. At a guess i would say there is either a small tear from the males hemipene, or something has gone very wrong with the ovulation, the first happens from time to time, the second generally doesnt, and its very easy for the snake to die from breeding complications. |
