Bought my first corn snake over a month ago, and since then I have been handling him regularly. I've made sure not to have him out for too long, but he doesn't seem to be getting used to being handled ? When I get him out of his tank he avoids my hands and really flinches when I touch him. Once he's out, he's more or less fine, but he'll flinch whenever I touch him (except when he's crawling on me). Very unsure, but I think he's around 4-6 months old ? Maybe younger. He's never bitten me or made any attempts to, but that could just be because he's pretty tiny at the moment. Is he likely to adjust later on, because I was told you can fully tame a baby corn in about 2 weeks ? And as it's way beyond that point I'm getting concerned, very unsure I could own a full grown corn snake that had a fit whenever I touched him :/
Any advice would be much appreciated :-) |

Ahh thanks guys :-) I only know one person who's had a snake from being a wee one and she's never really had an issue. Good to know there's no problem :-) |

Yeah sounds like your doing everything right and you have him tolerant (not tame, they will always be wild). Spot is about 5 months old and very good when handled but always jumps at the first touch like I've just tickled him. I heard that they are very sensitive and will jump when touched. If its not even attempting to bite then that is a good sign, hatchlings are more likely to bite than an adult and although it can never be said that they will never bite the fact its not trying can't be anything but good. Just keep on doing what you are doing, regular handling for short periods and you'll be fine. |

It sounds pretty normal to me. Even as adults, snakes dont particularly enjoy being handled... they just tolerate it! I have a three year old snake and she can still jump the odd time if i touch her when she's not expecting it! Don't worry :) |
