Posted - 12/12/2010 : 22:50:45 Hello there - I have a corn snake who is just over a year old, she is quite large for her age, she eats 2 large mice every 2 weeks and is still growing, I cannot tell you her current weight because she's become too big for the scales I own.
She is otherwise a healthy, normal corn snake, she has not had any problems in the past, but when she shed this time there was a small amount of blood on the vent part of her shed. It is definately blood, from her, the last time she defecated was 3 days ago, which was normal and showed no signs of anything untoward.
I watched her shed this time and it did not seem to take any extra effort, but there was a slight 'pull' but nothing dramatic or unusual.
Any thoughts on this would be great :)

she's a year and 4 months old and 3ft 2inches, I think this might be quite big for her age. I've been checking her for any signs of white between the scales, lines on the scales or 'hips' appearing and she just looks like a normal snake, should I be feeding her less? She starts hunting around after just over a week and I feed her every 2 weeks on 2 large mice.
Last time I weighed her was when she was a year old - she was 2ft 3 inches, 140g and was eating 1 medium mouse every week at that point. So in 6 months she's put on a foot, is that ok?
I'm a bit confused :S but glad that the blood doesn't mean anything :)

Posted - 13/12/2010 : 21:16:05 Glad I've seen this thread. I'd have had a heart attack if I found blood on one of my snakes sheds and didn't know it was a normal thing to come across!! |

Posted - 13/12/2010 : 20:36:23 I've been following the feeding chart on here - going up when she reached the appropriate weight, she's still the proper shape, I don't know why she's so heavy really, I don't know what to do :S she'd clearly not using the weight to put on chub, she's just heavy and long I think :) I'll try and weigh her on some bigger scales soon :) |

the bits of blood are nothing to worry about, some of mine get it occasionally |

Posted - 13/12/2010 : 18:38:29 Nothing to worry about, a vast amount of snakes have these next to the vent when shedding. My King has just left the exact same things on the last shed as well. |
