well my 4 and a half foot corn snake blake is a bit over weight, as i posted a few weeks ago, he currently weighs 800gram and is very chunky in his rear quarters,i wouldnt say he is dangerously moribdly obese but he definatley needs to lose weight, even if he loses 100grams is an improvement for him. i currently for the past month or so been feeding him 1 medium sized mouse every 3 weeks but there is no sign of him losing any weight as of yet. i been handling him a lot more often aswell aswell as swimming excercises in the bath but yet again no sign yet. what is the best thing i can do for him??? |

Lots of caresheets that also say feed small rats but a person idea of a small rat could be anything and with rats you need to get the right size to be able to do the normal 1-14 days feeding schedule. If you do that with weaners, that is simply way too much :( |

yh i just added a post to the sticky post "is your corn snake a fatty" i just pointed out that theres alot of ppl out there who dont realize that their corn snake is over weight. i mean theres alot of caresheets online that say for an adult, feed once every 7 days which is way too much. |

I put Charlie on the bottom step and he goes up the skirting on the edges to get up each step but he gets to the top... he has yet to come down lol but he thoroughly enjoys doing it (I think) and though he is only tiny I only do it for my amusement and because I have read corns are prone to obesity so I give him a good 3x up the stairs once a week. |

thanks for the advice evry1, tho my stairs have a thick layer of carpet over them and he would never be able to grip so id give that one a miss, but the cardboard tube in the viv sounds like a good idea as we get through kitchen towel in this house like anything so putting a load of kitchen towel tubes in his vis sounds a good idea. |

It is very slow :( Mine started dieting like 3 years ago... with his new diet he lost about a bit over 150g and now weight loss and stopped again :(
Stairs works well if your snake is interested and your snake can actually grip n the stairs! Sometimes the carpet makes it hard for them to climb so they slide everywhere.
As sexybear says really :p the new kinda "toy" is good as they will be a new smell, and they have to explore it! I normally bung a load of poster tubes, cardboard boxes and loo rolls into the viv for half a day a few times a week and he exercises himself by exploring the new smells and climbing ontop of them all. They eventually get board if you put the same set in the viv, so I recycle the old smelling lot and dump a fresh load in. |

I recall a thread on here once that said stairs are very good for cornsnakes as a weight loss tool. Letting them go up and down the treads is, apparently, very good exercise.  |

You could try a smaller prey item, space out the feedings more, provide more "toys" in his viv, and just carry on with the exercise. Weight loss for corns is really slow. |

ps. im also aware that i could even widen the gap from every 3 weeks to every 5 weeks but i dont want to be "starving" him as that would be a bit cruel, im just a little bit confused at the mo. |
