I have taken my 3 year old corn snake to the vet and asked about his tail. the vet hadn't seen something like that before but he said it is probably something he just has and it definately isn't an obstruction as he is still able to pass urine/faeces. He has no problem eating and is lively enough. I just want some advice on what it could be and if it can cause any harm. I have added a link for pictures. I am waiting to hear back from a reptile specialist on this too but would like some advice a.s.a.p as i am worried. Thank you for your help.

an adult female of mine has a similar thing, as if there is an air bubble under the skin just above the tail, its never gotten bigger and she is fine, could it be after ovulation and post passing a large amount of eggs? |

has the lump suddenly appeared or been getting progressively bigger? and if so over what timescale?
if it was infection, it's likely to have increased in size over a few days but be hard and could be uncomfortable
a cyst or tumour is possible if it appeared over a longer period of time, and if it's a fatty lump it would usually take months to get to that size.
of course a 'diagnosis' over the internet isn't the same as a specialist rep/exotics vet seeing the animal in question in the flesh.
possible treatments depend on what it is likely to be and include monitoring at home, a course of oral/injectable antibiotics, biopsy or fine needle aspirate with histopathology or surgery. |

Um I'd get another vet to check it out if I were you, specially with the shape of it and the fact that vet isn't sure. Is it squishy or is it quite firm? |

That is a big sized lump.
As your vet evidently isn't a reptile specialist, then I would wait until you can get hold of a reptile specialist before assuming anything.
Out of curiosity where about do you live, we've got members all over the country and people know of decent reptile vets in loads of places, it'd probably be a lot quicker than waiting for a rep vet to get back to you as well. |

just heard from the reptile specialist. She told me it looks like fat or cellulite but also a chance of a cist. what do u guys think? |
